Bono's ONE foundation under fire for giving little over 1% of funds to charity

Bono's anti-poverty foundation ONE is under pressure to explain its lavish salaries after it was revealed that only a small percentage of money it raises reaches the needy. The non-profit organisation set up by the U2 frontman received almost £9.6m in donations in 2008 but handed out only £118,000 to good causes (1.2 per cent).

The figures published by the New York Post also show that £5.1m went towards paying salaries.

"I’m betting that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has become a standard unsupervised monster charity that that has been taken over by careerist staffers and is run for their benefit, while accomplishing very little of substance."

It could be worse - it could be like the Ford Foundation and support all kinds of idiot liberal causes (diametrically opposed to the ideas Ford himself supported, btw).

I wonder if living under Communist Dictator Control has anything to do with poverty??

IMHO that is what is wrong in all the impoverished countries we try to help. If the aid doen’t have constant oversight in that country, the blackmarketers and the government steal the money/goods and the people still starve. Or, in Bono’s case the money never even gets there. As long as there is greed there is no solution.

When you look at their site it APPEARS to be about helping Children.
But then when you read the BS. They NEVER commit to actually helping the “Children”. Just talk about helping the Children and the site has lovely pics of small children.
Why is it you scratch a leftie and you find some scam to get money from people, whether ObamaCare or this pathetic money grabber.

Well, it is an anti-poverty foundation; and given that 74% of the donations are going to salaries, I'd say the foundation is doing a good job of fighting poverty among its employees.

The purpose of many "charitable foundations" is to be a means of sheltering money from taxes while conveying it to friends and descendants. Any actual "charity" work is just for maintaining the fig leaf.

“ONE foundation under fire for giving little over 1% “

I guess that’s why they named it that.

I agree. It seems to me most “non-profits” and NGOs are just shills who lobby for raising taxes.

From the article

ONE spokesman Oliver Buston has now defended the way the organisation is run, insisting the money is used for promoting its campaign and raising awareness rather than being handed straight to those who need help.

So they are for promoting themselves, not actually doing anything. They will make fine politicians.

A lot of it reaches the greedy, though.

It’s about social climbing their way into diplomacy. Not about helping, but about getting into politics via ‘humanitatianism.’ It worked for Eva Peron, so I suppose they think it should work for them.

A Special Message From Bono

Sep 23rd, 2010 12:29 PM EST

Bono talks about our campaign to ensure no child is born with HIV by 2015, before singing “Moment of Surrender” on stage in Paris on September 18.

Bono:

“Here’s a thought to leave you with: By 2015, we could live in a world where no kids are born with HIV. The first born AIDS-free generation of our lifetime, by 2015. That’s a thought, right? Every day, 1,000 mothers give birth to a child with HIV. And it doesn’t have to be, so sign up to the ONE Campaign, choose RED, support your First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and the Global Fund. They’re here tonight. This is for them. Thank you, you’re our heroes.”

Well here is the aanswer: All of this started by the U.N, and the G8. Ofcourse there are always scammers that take advantage of good intentions. ■A United Nations General Assembly Special Session on AIDS in June 2001 concluded with a commitment to create such a fund... ■...which the G8 endorsed and helped finance at their meeting in Genoa in July 2001.

Bono is basically a stream at the mouth consciousness with no conscience... like a Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. He should be doing gangsta rap with Rev Wright and everybody will get on the soul train that’s gone souless and dance like the undead that they are. You can always see they coming for their designer shades... and that’s what they are in Hades.
