Oxytocin – the love hormone – could cure shyness
Telegraph U.K. via Drudge ^ | 9/23/10 | Richard Alleyne

Scientists have discovered that the hormone oxytocin could help wallflowers overcome awkwardness in social situations.

The chemical dubbed "the hormone of love" is known to increase empathy and bonding – especially parents and their children. But now researchers have found it improves the social skills of the shy – but has little effect on those who are naturally confident.

The finding could have implications for those with severe social deficiencies, often apparent in conditions like autism. Researchers at Israel's Seaver Autism Center for Research and Treatment and Columbia University were examining whether the hormone, which occurs naturally in the body could make us more understanding of others.

I honestly misread the title as Oxycontin.

If it’s cliche I’ve never heard it.

The short novel 'To Kill A Mockingbird' was/is an intense story of a seduced negro way, back with segregation, and white lawyer getting vilified for defending him. Best line..."then I saw him rutting on my May Ella."

Forgot who wrote it.

In general I agree.
Pills are over prescribed.

However, I wouldn't object to this one being used to cure mooselimbs....

I like this quote:

I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. ~Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird, Chapter 11, spoken by the character Atticus

Isn’t that the stuff they use to induce labor? I’ll just have a little cabernet if it’s all the same to you.

She is definitely going to be a productive member of society. She is very good at math, she is a very hard worker, and she also likes making money.

She does tend not to listen to others much, and she will ramble about topics that people are not interested in. She just can’t tell when people are tuned out.

She also hasn’t figured out how to ask other people questions to get to know them.

I just don’t want her to become too isolated when she leaves home. She could easily do that.

Nice.

I know where there are some of a different Genre that are specifically made for creating glass parking lots. Very effective.

It’s easy to get and cheap. I’ve been doing research on it for the last half hour or so. Vets use it. They make “trust spray”. We’re talking $20 here. This stuff, 5-htp, could work together?

This is a natural hormone. If if was patentable, it’d probably be all over the place.

It’s cheap. Vets use it.

Might as well try this stuff. It’s a natural hormone that she might have a deficiency in. Like a vitamin or a mineral deficiency or an inability to process it correctly.

It’s not like a pharmaceutical which pharma cos can’t even descibe how it works.
