Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog have some new friends, but they're a long way from "Sesame Street."
One of America's best-loved children's shows, which began life on a fictional New York street over 40 years ago, is about to land in Nigeria under the title of "Sesame Square" -- bringing with it some distinctly West African twists.
The show stars Kami, a girl Muppet who is HIV-positive, has golden hair and a zest for adventure; and Kobi, an energetic, furry, blue Muppet whose troublesome escapades help others learn from his mistakes.

Oh, thats right . Those diseases arent PC,cause celebre diseases.<<
In this case I respectfully disagree. Here in the USA and in most of the Western world, you are 100% correct — AIDS gets both attention and money way out of proportion to the population who get it.
As you know, HIV is a lifestyle disease and damn near 100% of the USA knows how to avoid it: do not engage in homosexual sex and stay in a monogamous heterosexual relationship and you should be 99% OK.
But in Africa, there is a LOT of misinformation about it and the governments are struggling to get the correct information out. AIDS has hit epidemic proportions and many Africans use folk remedies that make matters worse.
If this is a mechanism that can forewarn and educate kids (AND adults) who otherwise would continue to be ignorant, then that is a good thing.
I think one African country (I can’t recall which one) embarked on a massive public education project and had great success in lowering the occurrence of HIV/AIDS.
A muppet girl, lol. Of course not a gay muppet guy
Africa has a completely different situation with regard to HIV. With the large numbers of little kids suffering due to no fault of their own ... this likely isn’t a terrible idea.
It would, however, be a bad idea over here. We don’t have large numbers of kids with HIV. It is largely a disease in the gay community, and kids don’t need to be taught about it at such a young age.
Over there, kids likely already know about it (because a lot of them have it), and this will simply give them a relatable character on TV.

Not a victim of rape by a superstitious man who believed that it would "cure" his own AIDS?
