Bloomberg Slams Board of Elections for Failure to Mail Military Ballots [NYC is why they out there]
Fox News ^ | Oct 11 2010 | By Jana Winter

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg slammed the state's Board of Elections on Monday for failing to mail out absentee ballots to military and overseas voters from New York City and four additional counties.

"I don’t know whether or not the Board of Elections has failed to send out absentee ballots to the military or anybody else, but if they have failed it really is reprehensible," Bloomberg told Fox News. "We send our young men and women overseas to fight and to die for us and we don’t care enough to make sure they get the right to exercise their franchise? That’s what they’re over there fighting for as much as anything else."

FoxNews.com first reported Sunday that New York had not mailed out absentee ballots to all its 320,000 military servicemen and women and overseas voters, in clear violation of the MOVE Act.

I’m near the Jersey shore. It’s nice - not a bit like the tv show.

Bacall has lived in the Dakota for maybe 50 years! She’s still going strong, I see her walking her tiny dog sometimes. What a character.

Yeah, it’s awful when your own fellow Americans disparage 9/11 and all the poor secretaries, mailroom workers, etc. (ya know, those little Eichmanns, lol!) who were incinerated. But you would never expect it from our side of the aisle.

Yikes! Ditto :)

12 w. 72nd St. (it’s not on the corner). Notable residents of the Cromwell were Sigourney Weaver, Isaac Asimov, John Boy Walton, and others I don’t remember anymore. It was a long time ago.

Anyway folks need to stop the nonsense about picking on locations, and focus on throwing bad leaders out of office.

I can’t help but find it rather humorous that FReepers from CaliPelosifornia disparage our beloved city.

Good one! LOL! Go Yanks! Go Bronx!

One time I went to this pizzaria on White Plains Rd. The 5 Train. For my money THE BEST. Nobody has pizza like NY (except NY Pizza in Miami)! (Forget tomato pie in Staten Island - it's good, but not real pizza.)

I don't see how people who don't even know what a *real* pizza tastes like can give us the business!

P.S. Used to work in the Oliver Cromwell right across the street from the Dakota

Small FReepin' world! :-D

Jersey shore - a ways away. That's nice that if you're in the city, you don't have to beat it back on the last train for the night. I knew someone who did.

I never see anyone famous! Not so much as even Yoko Ono. But I'm glad that my namesake, and her pup, are doing well.

But you would never expect it from our side of the aisle.

People have their prejudices, unfortunately.

All have to remember that we’re Americans and conservatives, and if we’re going to take back our country, it has to be through the effort of the 50 states united. When something happens to one state, it happens to all of us.

We’re about 50 miles outside NYC. Takes about 50 minutes with no traffic, 90 minutes by train. I commuted for many years but we finally took a little place in “the city.”

I remember seeing John Lennon all the time at Bloomingdale’s. He walked the streets of NYC like a native. He loved NYC and it was killed by a citizen of another state (I forget which one!)

My husband’s from the Bronx! I just watched some Food Network show about pizza in NYC and pizza in Chicago. For some crazy reason, Chicago won out. I was outraged! New Jersey has some great pizza joints as well (ex-NYCers who open restaurants).

We do have to pull together. Otherwise, we’ll hang alone!

I cannot fathom the hatred that oozes from your comments regarding New York City. We’re all Americans.

Also amazing what sludge passes for wisdom on FR lately.

Mark Levine did speak about this on his show tonight. You can hear the audio on his website:

It came maybe a half hour in. Both of his guns were blazing!

That's a heck of a commute - you sure earned your little spot. And it's a good way to keep your hand in. BTW, I can't remember ever seeing the Pine Barrens. It sounds beautiful in a very stark way. Like the beauty of the desert.

I remember seeing John Lennon all the time at Bloomingdale’s. He walked the streets of NYC like a native. He loved NYC and it was killed by a citizen of another state (I forget which one!)

I wish I could have met him. Did you ever say "hi." From everything I've heard, he really did love NYC, and finally found his home here.

I don't know where Chapman came from. Such a shame.

If Chicagoans are happy with their deep dish pizza, who am I to rain on their parade. Live and let live.

But if you’re going to compare the two...c’mon. I love The Food Network, and sometimes watch with a BFF who’s also into it. But as far as pizza is concerned, they don’t know a thing.

BFF and I ADORE the wedding cake shows. I may be wrong, but I bet you’re more into Giada than Paula Deane.

There are a lot of things that happened in the course of US History, and there are hurts and rivalries that some still feel. IMO, we need to lay these things gently aside for the duration, because if we are a fractured movement, we will lose the power and strength of our numbers.

For the sake of our freedom, we must turn to God together, and go forward together. This is what must be done in *our* generation.

The military vote is largely Republican. A failure to get ballots to the military is Democrats working exactly as planned. For Bloomberg to claim different is an out and out lie.

FNYC?

This discussion is about our MILITARY servicemen and women having their right to vote deliberately stolen from them by the State of New York and the DOJ... do you not care about them because they are from NYC? Your comment is so inappropriate on multiple levels.

Thanks so much - it was very thoughtful of you. I saved it to my computer. :-)

I’m rooting like crazy for Pat Toomey. He was so ripped off last time. I am still so furious with RINO Santorum. The only live FReep I’ve done was to protest him and Specter, when they were speechifying in NYC.

Santorum is trying to make a comeback, but I don’t know if I could ever trust him again. I don’t think so.

Go Toomey!

I don’t hate NY... but I lost most of the respect and most of the sympathy that I had for you after 9/11. Your voting record and the actions of those that you elect sickens most Conservatives.
