David Frum: A new look at a third party (RINOS ATTEMPTING TO THWART TEA PARTY) (BARF ALERT)
National Post ^ | 2010-10-19 | David Frum

Posted on 10/23/2010 1:57:32 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Republican political strategist Mark McKinnon – veteran of McCain and Bush presidential campaigns – acknowledged in an interview with David Frum that a third-party presidential effort for 2012 was not far off, and hinted at his involvement in one.

In the podcast interview, McKinnon, who was discussing his recent Daily Beast column “A Centrist Manifesto”, lamented that “there’s nobody that gets rewarded for bipartisan behavior, [and] in fact they get punished.” To that end, he said, “there is a very real possibility for a legitimate third party effort for 2012 … American voters are so hungry for more voice, and more choice.”

While reluctant to discuss the matter much further because announcements are forthcoming, McKinnon did let on that he was at least somewhat involved:

I’m reluctant to talk about [how a third party run would emerge] because I’m involved with some things that are happening that just haven’t been announced… it’s way more than gum-chewing. The appetite is there. Part of the problem is that there are some legal problems in the way. But there are some people working very hard to make sure that there won’t be those legal hurdles in the way… so that anyone who wants to run can run in 2012.

McKinnon suggested that an announcement related to such a third-party effort was on its way within the next few months, by “March at the latest.”

(snip)

McKinnon remained loyal to President Bush, saying that “I fully embrace and believe in the whole concept of compassionate conservatism, and I think we made great achievements in the area of AIDS funding and education reform.

McKinnon was a lifelong Dem operative who surprisingly announced after the 1996 election that he was out of politics—only to reappear as a W man for 2000.

There were a lot of those lifelong Dems that became W men in 2000. In addition to McKinnon, there was Matthew Dowd. In the 1980s, Dowd worked for Sen. Lloyd Bentsen(D) as well as Bob Bullock (GWB's Democrat mentor). He then moved on to Bill Clinton(D) and Dianne Feintstein(D) campaigns in 1992, then worked a couple of Texas campaigns(D) for statewide office. He became a W man in 2000.

A few years later, he became a chief strategist for California's ultimate RINO, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold hired Dowd at the same time as he hired Steve Schmidt -- both coming from GWB's White House. This was right after Arnold had hired Susan Kennedy, a lesbian Dem operative who had worked with Dowd on the Clinton/Feinstein campaigns, as his chief of staff.

The enemy within is large.

Well, there is that.

It would draw from GOP RINOs and DemocRAT "centrists."

Suggested party mottoes and campaign slogans:

David Frum tells a Bold faced lie in the first sentence.

MARK McKInnon is NOT A REPUBLICAN.

Marky is a hard core Austin Lefty who Bush hired for the 2000 and 2004 elections.

Marky let his employee had over the Bush debate tapes to Gore's team.

Marky is a registered leftist Dem and worked for Ann Richardson and other fellow leftist politicians.

Why are frauds and liars like Frumm and McKinnon allowed to peddle this BIG FAT LIE.

Old Marky left McCain because he was lefty and supported Obama !

I am sick of intentional fraud being peddled in the State media.

RUSH needs to out this scam on air that is pushed by McKinnon .

exactly right.

The smell of Soros is all over this trial balloon piece.

Marky is the DEM PARTY operative peddling some phony cover that he is a moderate.

BS. Marky is a hard core Ann Richard “Austin” progressive.

I still believe he was involved in Gore getting the Bush debate from his employee !

I never heard that one, thanx for putting up ...... So Ahnuld is pressed between a left-wing female chief of staff in the office and Maria Schriver at home?! No wonder ....

Is the Clinton/DiFi sapphic Kennedy one of the Hyannisport Kennedys? Then of course there's also the former --what? AG? -- who ran for statewide office back when. Governor? She's a Hyannisport Kennedy.

Just how many of the Kennedy clan are infesting California politics?

Just wondering how bad it gets ....

Start a third party...do it, I still recall John Anderson in 1980 handing the election to Reagan.

Barry Commoner ran that year as a Socialist -- he was their Ralph Nader that year. He ran on such themes as, "let them keep ownership of their property -- we'll just regulate control away from them", and all the "progressives" were hissing at him to "shut up -- don't give the game away!!" Of course, that is exactly what Ozero and his orcs have done in office; they and their mob have been planning this for 40 years at least.

Commoner got a risible vote, but it all whittled away at Mr. Peanut.

Why was the Bush Administration crawling with people like this, and with movement homosexuals who worked feverishly behind the scenes to make social conservatives -- a pillar of the Reaganauts and of the Nixon coalition before that -- into a mass of political unpersons, noncitizens -- hell, into refugees from the "thoughtcrime" police?

We're seeing that message propagated from Obama DoD right now: "If you're not gay-friendly, GET OUT OF THE MILITARY!"

No kidding, see thread.

Here was my round up in 2005 of Susan Kennedy's life-long liberal career (short post but truly stunning).

Frumtards from the Frum Forum keep showing up here to push homomarriage. ....it comes as no surprise to me that Frum is sneering at the Tea Party.

And Palin.

So -- is Frum part of a gay cabal? The Bush W.H. seems to have been lousy with closeted and not-so-closeted backstabbers.

Sorry - didn’t answer the rest of your post.

No, Susan Kennedy was not related to the Joe Kennedy spawn. I’m not sure who you are referring to as a candidate for AG (or other). There are only 2 Kennedy/Shrivers (other than Maria) that I can recall being active in California.

JFKjr is Arnie’s buddy and has been handed a few plum appointments to key boards. He has also benefited from Arnie’s $3 Billion dollar “Million Solar Roofs” boondoggle — RFKjr went into the Solar biz (and has also benefited from Feinstein working land deals at the fed level). Bobby Shriver has been working his way up in politics in the Communist infested city of Santa Monica.

JFKjr’s buddy Terrence Tamminen is a global warming nut that Arnie appointed him to be head of the Californa EPA where he did irreversible damage before hitting the road with Al Gore for bigger and more lucrative deceptions. (Tamminen had been a pool cleaner when Arnie promoted him to head environmental dude for California — TRUE story!)

I know there are more Kennedy’s running for or in office on the east coast but I don’t follow those.

I did some searching for a Kennedy I thought I remembered who ran for statewide office 15-20 years ago, who had "Kennedy" as her middle name -- one of Eunice's or the other sisters' girls, I thought. All I found was Kathleen Brown (ran for governor 1994), who tried to run on brother Jerry's name recognition and was a disaster. I probably had a misimpression that she was a distant relative of the Hyannisport clan.

Ted Kennedy, of course, did campaign for a while in Calif. during his abortive run to unseat Jimmy Carter.

Thanks for the links.

Let all the RINO’s go into a third party

Got that right. The RINO votes we lose will be more than offset by conservative Reagan democrats and independents.

After I wrote that I wondered if you were thinking of Kathleen Brown.
We can’t get rid of that Brown clan, either.

“I fully embrace and believe in the whole concept of compassionate conservatism, and I think we made great achievements in the area of AIDS funding and education reform.”

Mark, ol' buddy, ol' pal, in the immortal words of Bob Schieffer, "Is that all you've got?"

You defend something called "compassionate conservativism" and all you've got is AIDS funding and education "reform".

Wow, now that's a platform that a third party can stand on and make electoral hay with...

Are there no serious people among the vaunted "moderates"?
