Meg Whitman lags behind Jerry Brown in Calif. governor race

Meg Whitman trails Jerry Brown in a new poll of likely California voters. The episode involving her illegal Mexican housekeeper is hurting her, especially among Latino voters.

Meg Whitman, Republican candidate for Calif. Governor, campaigns at a Vietnamese mall in San Jose, Calif., Saturday, Oct. 23. Whitman, the former CEO of eBay, is lagging behind Democrat Jerry Brown in the most recent poll.

Lots can happen in a week, but the GOP candidate for governor of California is trailing Democrat Jerry Brown by a substantial – and apparently growing – margin. And it looks like the flap over her illegal housekeeper is one major reason.

According to a USC College/Los Angeles Times Poll released Sunday, Mr. Brown now leads Ms. Whitman by 13 points among likely voters (52-39 percent). In last month’s poll, Brown was ahead by just five points – not much more than the margin of error.

Why the slippage, especially since the billionaire former eBay CEO has been able to outspend her opponent?

One big reason is found among Latinos in California, who make up 19 percent of all registered voters.

Democrats usually enjoy an advantage here, but that has become increasingly clear in this year’s governor’s race. Between September and October, Brown’s lead among this crucial demographic jumped from 19 percent to 36 percent.

Democrat Barbara Boxer ahead too

In California’s other main statewide race – for US Senator – three-term incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer holds an eight-point lead (50-42 among likely voters) over GOP challenger Carly Fiorina.

If California puts these 2 Socialist commies back in charge they deserve to be exiled out of the union based on stupidity alone.

Dunno if I buy these margins... but there definitely is a silver lining to Brown's winning.

How appropriate for him to be on the bridge when the ship goes down. After all, he conned us onto this iceberg.

Hey! It’s the land of fruits, nuts and flakes! The Granola State! The real news here is that they are fighting for their political lives. Americans are making headway in Cauliphonya.

Illegal Mexicans voting is what going to hurt her. I really hope someone pushes the idea of California being split into two states.

I would bet they are oversampling Dems and using a 2008 turnout model. Sean Trende from RCP said this is happening a lot across the country.

There's an iceberg on the horizon for the ship of California, called a Republican-controlled House. They are going to cut out bailouts to the states and Moonbeam is going to have to deal with the huge budget deficit and angry unions.

Whadda ya expect from California! They need someone who will tax the tar out of everyone with any $ so they can have their welfare and pensions.

They will reap what they sow.

California needs to sink or swim on it’s own. They created the debt problem and they need to own it. I am sure Jerry Brown is expecting the Feds to bail him out. California’s debt solution is within sight. It is called offshore drilling. It is there for the taking. If they are to stupid to go after it, they deserve to go bankrupt.

Please spare us these Propaganda polls .

This poll is just as slanted as the last one cooked two weeks ago.

The same oversampled Dems, under sampled Rep / Indy.
This type of propaganda poll would make Castro blush.
