So said Joe Biden today on the second-floor bar at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel at a fundraiser for incumbent Democratic NY-1 Rep. Tim Bishop.

“Every single great idea that has marked the 21st century, the 20th century and the 19th century has required government vision and government incentive,” he said. “In the middle of the Civil War you had a guy named Lincoln paying people $16,000 for every 40 miles of track they laid across the continental United States. … No private enterprise would have done that for another 35 years.”

For innovation and business, people don't look towards government!!!!

It is frightening what Obama is doing right know, It is doubling frightening to think that Joe Biden is one heartbeat away as well.

The first tea bags were made from hand-sewn silk muslin bags and I have found tea bag patents of this sort dating as early as 1903. First appearing commercially around 1904, tea bags were successfully marketed by tea and coffee shop merchant Thomas Sullivan of New York, who shipped his tea bags around the world. A machine was soon invented to replace the hand sewing of tea bags.

Also in 1904, iced tea was first reported to be served by Englishmen Richard Blechynden at the St. Louis Fair, however, there is evidence that the beverage was invented prior to that date.

Thomas Lipton incorporated the Lipton Tea Company in 1915. Lipton Tea patented a novel four-sided tea bag in 1952 called the flo-thru tea bag.

I didn’t see any gubbamint program involved.

Biden must have met Jesus......the Bible says that Jesus made the dumb to speak, and that’s about the dumbest thing I’ve heard spoken in years.

Reminds me of another Vice President mumbling about inventing the internet.

Although in that particular case the US government did play a vital role.

"Just when I think he can’t get any more stupid . . ."

What ever small amount of gray matter Joe was born with he probably destroyed by attending too many DC cocktail partys. He is a disgrace.

And it wasn’t Federal government rewards that incentivized the railroads — it was promises of huge tracts of land by the States. On land ownership maps around here, there are still hundreds of small “remnant” tracts owned by the “BBB&C RR” all over the place...

'REQUIRED GOVERNMENT INCENTIVE'...

I don't recall the Wright Brothers relying on government grants to build the first airplane.

“Every single great idea that has marked the 21st century, the 20th century and the 19th century has required government vision and government incentive,” he said.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later: even Biden was going to have to jump the shark. I guess this it. And what a bummer for Al Gore too: I guess he can no longer claim he personally invented the Internet. (Actually the invention of the Internet was a product of ARAP funding, one of the very few great inventions of mankind that was actually funded by the government. However, ARAP funds some wild stuff, no strings attached, and then gets the hell out of the way, and the ARAP funding for the Internet was a work of genius in and of itself.)

(BTW, someone needs to photoshop Joe Biden’s face on top of that picture of the Fonz jumping the shark to illustrate Joe Biden’s ridiculous claim.)

Joe Biden is pathetic. His Delaware compound is located only a few thousand feet (a mile and a half) from where E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company (DuPont) was founded in 1802. DuPont has more than 35,000 US patents, starting with their first in 1804. Even starting in 1810 to make it 200 years, it's more than 35,000.

DuPont commercialized more than 1,400 new products and applications in 2009. Few of those were because of government incentives.

Is it just because he's a moron, or is it his famous dishonesty, too?
