TRENDING: O'Donnell threatened to sue radio station
CNN ^ | 10/27/2010

~ EXCERPT ~

(CNN) - Christine O'Donnell, the surprise Tea Party-backed Senate candidate in Delaware, threatened to sue a local radio station if it did not turn over a videotape of an interview it conducted with her.

O'Donnell's campaign later apologized to the station for the threat, WDEL reports.

O'Donnell appeared on WDEL's "The Rick Jensen Show" Tuesday, during which she fielded several questions from listeners and the host. Upon the conclusion of the interview, an O'Donnell aide demanded video of the interview be turned over to the campaign and destroyed because such videotaping had not been previously approved.

It was then, according to WDEL, that O'Donnell herself threatened to sue the station if it did not comply with the request. WDEL also says it later fielded a phone call from O'Donnell campaign manager Matt Moran, who threatened to "crush" the station with a lawsuit if it did not agree to turn over the tape.

Dear Mod: if not too much trouble, would be most appreciative if the headline can be changed to:

O'Donnell threatened to sue radio station

Thanks, not sure how that happened.

...demanded video of the interview be turned over to the campaign and destroyed because such videotaping had not been previously approved...

Sounds like she had grounds. Not an issue.

CNN probably headlined it as a lawsuit. Certainly they were delighted to make one more stab at COD with this NON Story.

Guess you didn’t read the full article. She had no grounds and her campaign apologized to the radio station once the lawyers all got involved.

CNN and AC180 have it out for her.

Every night AC whines and whines about how O’Donnell refuses to go on his show. She needs to respond by saying “why would I go on a show no one watches”

Not an issue whatsoever — yet another stupid move by her ham-handed, amateurish staff. If this woman ends up losing (God forbid) she need look no further than her inner office to figure out why.

Sounds like she had grounds. Not an issue.

Then why did she apologize?

From the article:

Upon further investigation, WDEL says O'Donnell's attorney called the station to apologize for the uproar and threat of litigation.

Sounds as if she had no grounds at all.

Well.... did she threaten to sue, or not?

Yeah, you are right. She should not have issued an apology.

Why would a radio station videotape an interview?

That sounds very odd and suspicious.

Perhaps the radio station is working in cahoots with the Coons Campaign, MSNBC, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher and the White House in order to edit that video tape in a manner that would make Christine look bad.

This is unfortunate. COD has apparently had a reputation for being litigious in the past, and I think most people tend to think unfavorably of people who “sue first, ask questions later”.

With the The Conservative Journal people speaking to the veracity of their polls and giving us some confidence that they are in fact real and may be in the ballpark of accuracy, it does appear that she may have some momentum. Hopefully, this will blow over in a day or two and not hurt her.

Sigh...

Lack of staffing.

Makes her look almost like Coons.

.............................................................
Coons was sued in 2005 for using his position to harass, defame and intimidate attorney Thomas S. Neuberger.

“...falsely accusing [attorney Thomas S. Neuberger] of...violating federal court orders, unethical behavior and other wrongdoing...disclosing to the Delaware media that plaintiff was dying of a brain tumor and that it was causing him to act erratically. Plaintiff also asserts that the Individual Defendants discussed his private medical information with numerous other individuals and during county government meetings”

Poor AC, like certain other males, they are threatened by Christine.

When ANYONE agrees to be put on the record (”taped” or otherwise) with ANY media outfit,

a demand

for a copy of the “tape” (or transcript or whatever),

as well as anything related to what will and will not be taped

MUST BE a contracted demand that is achieved BEFORE the individual meets with the media outfit.

Otherwise, the entire “record” is the property of the media outfit and subject only to what they chose to do with it (within the law).

Christine O’Donnell’s campaign threatens to “crush” WDEL-AM

Delaware Republican and Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell’s campaign manager has threatened to sue Wilmington radio station WDEL-AM (1150) for airing an interview it did with the US Senate candidate. WDEL reports that O’Donnell appeared live on Tuesday on the Rick Jensen Show, answering his questions and those from listeners. The entire interview was also recorded for later use on the station website, along with video of the interview. However, when the interview was complete, a campaign representative demanded the station turn over all tapes to the campaign. The station refused. That prompted a call from O’Donnell’s campaign manager Matt Moran, who demanded the video of the interview be turned over to the campaign immediately or be destroyed, threatening to “crush WDEL with a lawsuit” if it didn’t comply with that demand. Lawyers for the O’Donnell campaign contacted lawyers for Delmarva Broadcasting-owned WDEL, who were told the station was “in compliance with all applicable laws.” The campaign lawyers later apologized for the campaign manager’s threats. WDEL will be airing the interview on their website, both audio and video here ( http://www.wdel.com/index.php ).

Why would a radio station videotape an interview?

According to the article, so they can put it on their website. They do have a video archive that includes things other than O'Donnell's interview.

Everything noted in this CNN story is given by one source. Nothing at this point from anyone in the COD camp. I seriously doubt everything is being told. Have to hear from the other side to get a feel for what’s going on here.

The only reason we know about this is due to Christine’s attempt to bully the radio station into meeting her demands.

I’m going to make the wild guess that if we were to replace Christine’s name in this story with Coons, the reactions would be quite different.
