Most troops wouldn't oppose serving with gays, survey finds
Washington Post ^ | 10/28/2010 | Ed O' Keefe

Posted on 10/29/2010 10:19:37 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

A majority of active-duty and reserve service members surveyed by the Defense Department would not object to serving and living alongside openly gay troops, according to multiple people familiar with the findings.

The survey's results are expected to be included in a Pentagon report, due to President Obama on Dec. 1, regarding how the military would end enforcement of the "don't ask, don't tell" law that bans openly gay men and lesbians from serving in uniform.

Some troops surveyed - but not a majority - objected strongly to the idea of serving with gays and said they would quit the military if the policy changed, said the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly share details of the survey.

Defense Department officials did not respond to requests for comment.

NBC News first reported Thursday evening on the survey's findings.

In July, the Pentagon sent a survey with dozens of questions to 400,000 active-duty and reserve troops. It asked whether they had ever shared a room or the showers with gay peers, and how they might act if a gay service member lived with a same-sex partner on base.

Military officials did not say how many troops completed the survey, but at least 103,000 had done so just days before it was due, according to the Pentagon. A similar survey was later sent to military spouses.

I guess you think elimination of the freedoms of religion, association and speech are just fine and dandy.

What are you talking about?

Jim Robinson later on this thread:

“No homos in the military. Period!!”

and

“You can either leave off the homosexual agenda or you can move on. The choice is yours.”

Even if he didn’t address those comments directly to either of you, they still apply.

“A majority of active-duty and reserve service members surveyed by the Defense Department would not object to serving and living alongside openly gay troops, according to multiple people familiar with the findings.”

This doesn’t surprise me. I was one of the Army Reservists tagged to take the survey. It was written in such a way that you couldn’t really express your opinion on the matter clearly. It was obvious, from the way the survey was worded, that they weren’t interested if I cared about open homosexuals serving, but only if I would leave service if they did or tell others to do so. The survey wasn’t about gauging military opinion, but how to get DADT repealed with the least amount of turmoil. Taking this BOGUS survey was distasteful and probably the worse BS I have seen in my time in the military. My wife received a companion survey that was just as BOGUS.

NEVER did the outright ask, “do you think homosexuals should be able to openly serve.” They asked things like “will you leave the military” or “would you stop going to unit social functions.” The only place you could remotely express your opinion was in an open comments section. You can imagine that will be ignored. Sadly, with so many of the young persons joining today, they have become desentisized to homosexual behavior by the entertainment industry, et. Al. They don’t have a firm grasp on right and wrong themselves....it is creating discipline problems dealing with “amoral” enlistees. Now they want to add open homosexuals to that morass? Insanity!

Hate speech laws, hate crimes laws, forcing organizations to accept homosexuals, homosexual indoctrination in schools (Kevin Jennings, the NAMBLA fan, is the “safe schools czar”), criminalizing people who don’t want to take “wedding” photos of homosexuals and other like “crimes”, same sex marriage (mandating people who are opposed to it to fill out the license forms and all that stuff), forcing people to rent rooms or apartments to homosexuals, forced “sensitivity” training (acceptance of homosexuality as normal and natural) in all manner of institutions both public and private, homosexual adoptions and fostering children, and so on.

If you think that’s all fine and dandy, you’re beyond hope.

Thank you for your personal experience with this BS “survey”.

The rest of the story.

BTW I define Homophobia as, “A perfectly natural fear of behavior that is patently unnatural.”

So, by this definition I am proud to be homophobic because I do “rationally” fear what is “obviously” unnatural.

I’m familiar with his opinion. He’s pretty good at expressing it. I’m sorry you feel disappointed that he didn’t ban me when you called for him.

I’m also glad to see that the rules against disgusting personal insults also applies, hence the posts that were removed.

I’m a little afraid to click back onto this thread, not knowing what vile things may have been posted next by those claiming the high moral road.

As for the last stuff you posted, I’m not for any of it. Nor should anything I’ve said imply that. You’ve got a bunch of canned reactions about gays... I’m sorry that none of it really applies to this conversation. Not my fault.

So... enough said. Good day, again. Life’s too short.

Oh how sad... Maybe you should retreat?

Blackdog.....Mr. Robinson has been very clear that Free Republic is a family friendly forum. Anything pro-homosexual is not welcome here. You are indeed, whether you realize it or not, speaking the “homosexual agenda” party line. It doesn’t belong here.

Life’s too short.

Even shorter if choosing to engage in unhealthy and unnatural sexual practices... You champion orifice diversity based upon "feelings" --No survey needed to tell me the poop chute is not a dual purpose orifice.

You signed up just to post that BS? Guess you haven’t read the threads about homosexual rape in the military.

I get all of that. Somehow, that is not in the front of my mind. Even when they do bleed, I see a fellow combat buddy needing attention for his wound.

What you said not only doesn’t apply to anything I’ve said.... It’s astoundingly inappropriate in polite company.

Whatever. I’m not reporting it any more. I think it makes you look bad, not me... and that’s not my problem.

Oh, that’s on the list from “After the Ball” - keep the discussion away from what homosexuals actually do, as it disgusts normal people. Keep attention on “victim status” and how homosexuals are nice clean cut people who wouldn’t harm a fly.
