The US would be spending a whopping $200 million (Rs 900 crore approx) per day on President Barack Obama's visit to Mumbai.

"The huge amount of around $ 200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit," a top official of the Maharashtra government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit said.

About 3,000 people including Secret Service agents, US government officials and journalists would accompany the President. Several officials from the White House and US security agencies are already here for the past one week with helicopters, a ship and high-end security instruments. frpa

Somebody tell me that it really isn't $200 million a day. Please, for the love of all that is good, let this be wrong.

OK - math isn’t my strong suit. But if it’s $200 million per day, and the trip is 10 days, isn’t that like $2 BILLION?

Wait until the media discovers that we export many computer and call center jobs to India. Perhaps even the speech writing to Totus goes to India.

Obama’s narcissism and tone-deaf political smarts will be our ace(s)-in-the-hole come 2012. This guy just can’t get beyond himself.

Looks to me like we’re getting a discount compared to what Obama spends while hanging out in Washington.

As one of ~300,000,000 Americans, I’m more than happy to spend $1/day for him to be out of the country. $365/yr sounds like a good deal.

Why should he care? You and your progeny are paying for it, with interest.

Obama taking this trip says one thing. He doesn’t care a wit about us. He’s feeding his ego taking this trip. It is nothing but another expensive vacation.

Spare no expense. Stunning hubris. The Spain vacation looks like a small operation trial run on how to waste the tax payers’ money.

Why are the CEO's not paying their own damn way? This is disgusting. I despise this president and everyone who surrounds him. I am getting close to feeling the same about those who voted for him.

This is sick and demented behavior on his part. Americans are struggling to make ends meet and he is wasting precious resources on having the time of his life. arrgh.

There is no justification for his spending. Can congress defund his excursions?

Any list of these CEOs who are going on our dime?

This kind of crap, der Fuehrer’s statements, should be blasted by the GOP on a regular basis to the American public for the next two years. Rand Paul used BO’s coal industry killing statements in Kentucky very effectively. Winning the house is just the start. We need to hammer him and the democrats into the ground and keep kicking them after they are down.

FUBO & FAD

It is indeed 200 million dollars a day.

That's roughly the same per-diem as the War in Afghanistan. Obama's holiday in India is costing the same as invading India.

Another perspective: the total royalty receipts from oil companies to the US are 37 million dollars a day.

Obama will waste five times that on his ludicrous trip: his suite costs 10 Lakh/$20000 a night, there are 3000 similar (if cheaper) rooms for his entourage. Their liquid lunches will include 5 Lakh bottles of scotch from the Taj Mahal bar.

(1 Lakh of rupees = ~ 2220 dollars. 1 Crore of rupees = ~222,200 dollars. A bottle of scotch that costs 10,000 dollars. Think about that!)
