Difficult thoughts on the election

Posted on 11/04/2010 10:52:00 AM PDT by Conservative_Pragmatist

Hey gang-

I am new here. I was looking for Conservative boards to post on during the election and they just weren’t very good. Someone told me about this site so I figured I’d check it out.

I felt compelled to log-up after the Republicans took massive control of the US House this election.

Like most of you I was over-joyed when the Democrats got swept out of Congress. But we have seen how the tea leaves (pun intended) change. The last two cycles the Republicans got waxed, we were losing seats in strong Conservative areas. That cycle is now turned. We’ve picked up key seats in more Liberal areas like Mass, Illinois, Wisconsin, and here in Virginia a very popular Democrat (Boucher) was defeated. Never thought I’d see that, so the message is loud and clear, this nation DOES NOT want big government.

However, it’s easy to think the electorate in the center could swing right back to the other side if the Republicans fail to deliver. Or get this? Even if the Republicans DO deliver!

Personally, I think this election for the Republicans was great. We dominate the house so no far-left initiatives have any chance of ever making it to law. And I was sorta glad we didn’t get the Senate, because now the Democrats still have some culpability and Obama can’t play against the Republican congress in 2012. We are also close enough that if we win the White House in 2012, we could possibly send a complete majority Republican Senate with that person.

So that is GREAT news.

However, WHAT IF Obama decides to compromise with the Republicans? Remember Clinton compromised with the Republicans after 1994 and got some good things done on trade, welfare and the economy took off as well. Clinton was then re-elected as a more popular candidate than when he won in 1992.

Point is, if Clinton had not worked with the Republicans then maybe the country struggles longer and we beat him in 1996, but that wasn’t what was best for our country.

So the struggle I am having is this. Can we afford NOT to work with a Democrat President if it means we can help the USA? If he works WITH our guys, moves to the center, limits government spending and frees up the market and that helps our nation, then it stands a chance he could get re-elected, something I don’t want to see.

But…helping our country now, and the US Republicans now have a chance to help our nation may actually turn out to help the Democrat President.

While I was popping champagne the other night, I am now left with these thoughts and don’t know what to think. Again…for me it’s country first.

Sloth

I understand and I don’t agree with them either.

But hear me out here. You agree with free trade?

Does EVERYONE here agree with free trade?

Well Slick Willie moved toward the Republicans and worked WITH THEM, also welfare reform.

It was Clinton who came to our side, signed some laws (good ones) because he wasn’t gonna get liberal stuff done so he worked with the Republicans and got good bills done.

THEN he gets re-elected.

That’s what I am asking.

I am NOT SAYING for the Republicans to move to compromise with Obama I am asking if he works with our guys?

yes, some suggest Obama won’t do that...if thats the case this thead is a moot point.

I was just thinking of the possibility in light of what Clinton did.

And for THIS I am called a troll and one dude called me a Communist. LMMFAO.

Yes, I like Huckabee, but would rather him VEEP in 2012.

I want an economic guru in 2012, we need that because this economy wont be fixed by then that’s for sure.

OK, it looks like my posts in response must be approved since I am an India...err, Comm...ahhh, I mean a Noob.

Once my posts in response get out there, I trust you folks will believe me.

Seems you guys saw me in the Huckabee thread. While I like Huckabee I like him as only an honest, good guy who I do believe would be solid. But, I’d rather have a Libertarian type Conservative as our Prez candidate in 2012.

Yes, I typed that in word before posting.

I was trying to be pragmatic and practical. LOL...

I just wanted to see what people thought about my question, but it’s been a barrage of comments that have nothing to do with it.

Hey, it’s all good I’m a big boy and I this is a spirited bunch it seems. :)

Yes, this post was prepared. I had typed it in word and just left it...it wasn’t a big deal, I just hadn’t posted it yet. Saw a thing on Huckabee and posted there...

I get the caution you guys have, but I’ve made my case...although since none of these posts seem to be going through I guess it really doesn’t matter.

Folks in here will come to the conclusion that I am from India and am a Marxist troll. Doing what I have no earthly idea. I don’t post on LiberalDemocrats.com, because I don’t agree with them.

Hell, I agree you the people in here and am getting fried for just being here and because some weird nuance in my post ‘looked prepared’, now I’m an Indian.

We need to do what's best for the country... we're not dems - we don't JUST think of our own re-election. Dems don't get that - they're always thinking in the short run. And often in the short run they win - like you pointed out - we helped Clinton with welfare reform, balanced budget etc. and he used it to win. Fine. Dems are ingrates and backstabbers... We knew it all along. So in the long run, we do what's best for the country - and we'll do fine. There's no rush to form a judgment - that's a dem thing to.

Oh and the reason some questioned if you were a troll is because dems have a reputation of being liars... another 'short run' solution of theirs. That one's backfiring too..

I think it is always correct to do the right thing. They absolutely should start tackling problems now. If the president decides to cooperate/compromise, great. Personally, I don’t think he has it in him. If the president doesn’t cooperate, then he’ll look pretty bad. The very worst thing to do would be for the GOP to compromise. They will lose their new found voter base if they do that.

Well, I’m glad you finally caught up. At least now you can respond to the criticism. That’s the first step.

Welcome aboard. This is a tough board to contribute to as a newbie, but if you handle yourself well you’ll be accepted. The point is, we’re conservative, not moderates, not republicans in name only, not all inclusive. This is a conservative forum. And if that isn’t your belief, you’ll have a problem. Nevertheless, give it a chance, and learn.

This forum was developed on the idea that all men/women are given to us by God. We’re endowed with rights by our creator; not by government. Government is formed by us to serve us; not to rule us. Government, made up of men, isn’t perfect because men aren’t perfect. And the more we promote government control, the less we have control of ourselves because of our inherent vulnerability. That’s it in a nutshell.

If you accept that you’ll get along well.
