Sen.-elect Paul: GOP must consider military cuts
The Daily Caller/AP ^

Posted on 11/07/2010 2:06:31 PM PST by fabrizio

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen.-elect Rand Paul says GOP lawmakers must be open to cutting military spending as Congress tries to reduce government spending.

The tea party favorite from Kentucky says compromise with Democrats over where to cut spending must include the military as well as social programs. Paul says all government spending must be “on the table.”

Paul tells ABC’s “This Week” that he supports a constitutional amendment calling for a balanced budget.

I hadn’t thought of that but I think you are right. Besides, it is foolish to speak of “compromise” with the Dhimmicrats and believe that they will “compromise” on cuts to real wasteful spending and not to essential defense assets. “Compromise” means that the Dhimmicrats get what THEY want. And what they want is not good for the US, its security and its constitution.

Thank God a good chunk of the new freshman class in the House are military veterans, of THIS war.

And the House holds the purse strings, not the Senate.

As a veteran, I fully appreciate the need to have a strong military. Not only do we need a strong military, but the strongest. You cannot have a strong military without a strong economy. If it comes to a decision between nation building and America’s economic survival, I will take the latter. I supported Bush’s decision to liberate Iraq and the defeat of the Taliban in Afghanistan; however, it is time to bring the troops home and stop the money flow to Iraq. We are NEVER going to pacify Afghanistan. It is always going to be the wild west.

I'll reiterate: the armed forces have a legitimate and expressly constitutionally sanctioned role. They have performed that role DAMNED WELL. They've performed it so well, libertarian dopeheads and liberal dumbasses have freedom to bash them and tell them they receive TOO MUCH support.

The liberals' social programs are of another kind and quality of SUCK-ASS BAD altogether. They have not strengthened this country one damned bit. They have weakened it and undermined it. For Rand Paul to talk about military "wastefulness" and liberal social programs and Marxist wealth redistribution in the same breath shows he is appallingly stupid and uninformed, and that the good people of Kentucky may have made a mistake.

Senator-elect Rand Paul had better smarten up. His first steps out of the starting blocks looks like he's heading for a libertarian face-plant in the dirt.

In my opinion, hell NO.

Sorry, but shall we cut our military down as Clinton did and then spend years rebuilding it to get her back up to speed? If we have a threat, we need our military then. Not months or years later. We need several rotations of personnel, too, otherwise let’s go back to a draft. Maybe that’s the only way those of you who see little value to maintaining a strong, ready and capable military will come to understand the benefit. Too many in our most recent generations can’t comprehend a draft system. Maybe if pitifully-minded peacemakers were to actually serve with their minds, hearts, bodies and souls, our nation would come together as a united and proud America once again; where pledges were said, people didn’t speak during the National Anthem, flags displayed on homes were lit at night, our military could safely walk outside at night and not be murdered, and their votes could be protected.

Give me a break. How about ending the automatic pay raises for congresscritters first? Why not start there?

Cut all unconstitutional agencies, departments and bureaucracy.

That’ll cut all spending by much more than 20%. Then worry about the military, which is one of the few things the fedgov is actually supposed to do.

I get the impression that FR is filled with people who work for defense companies sometimes with that union scum on the factory floor at UTX, Raytheon, Lockheed, Martin Marietta, Boeing, etc. Eff those union goons.

Franzie, all you do is come here and call FReeper's stupid because they watch TV and don't fall in line with your childish demands that they heed your ridiculous posts.

Go spew your shit at the DUmp.

US out of Europe. That’s an easy one. We’ve propped up European socialism long enough. Let them pay their own way. They’re big boys.

Everything needs to be looked at.

But a person has to set priorities, right?

How about we start with the unconstitutional expenditures that flow to the State of Kentucky. Surely the Senator-elect won't mind starting there, right?

Bring the soldiers home.

If Korea feels threatened, let them build their army up to what they feel they need.

If Germany feels threatened, let them build their own defense.

Let Japan build their own army.

Saying he needs to learn more about current operations in Afghanistan, the Kentucky Republican, who had been vague on the campaign trail about his position on the war...

I used to work in military manufacturing. The waste of money on unproductive paperwork is staggering.

Indeed it is, not to mention the crap afterwords.

One of my first jobs was for a company that built computer peripherals, now known as printers for the military. The company had a patent on a process that allowed printers to print under extreme conditions (vibration, cold, etc). I was a production planner for many orders and when they were complete I was required to be present at the source inspection buy offs....for each deliver.

I'm 20 years old and required to attend meeting withe Generals in some cases who had the authority to accept the orders.

This was back in 1980

“I’ll reiterate: the armed forces have a legitimate and expressly constitutionally sanctioned role.”

I think with but a cursory examination of history you’ll see that our military has strayed pretty far from the constitutional role envisioned by our forefathers. It is begging to be cut.

“For Rand Paul to talk about military “wastefulness” and liberal social programs and Marxist wealth redistribution in the same breath shows he is appallingly stupid and uninformed, and that the good people of Kentucky may have made a mistake. “

Military spending is not sacred. It is money taken from taxpayers (or our taxpayers grandchildren, lately) so as little as possible should be spent to fulfill it’s constitutional role and necessary functions to defend the USA. I submit that $600B is beyond excessive for what we need in military spending.

That we have a myriad of other social spending begging to be slashed or eliminated is no reason to leave military untouched.

We are clearly wasting time, lives, and money in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We are wasting even more money on bailouts, and financial shenanigans to prop up non-functioning institutions.

We are wasting as much on social programs that everyone is afraid to cut.

They all must be cut - we need to cut a trillion dollars from our budget. The military will be a part, perhaps a big part of that, and anyone who refuses to recognize that is crazier than a libertarian dopehead.

“He is right. Nation building is ridiculous.”

Correct.
It only makes sense to stay in Afghanistan if we can forcibly convert most of the population to give up Islam, and then kill the rest.
It ain’t gonna happen, so let’s save the lives of our brave soldiers and our limited funds.

No. Do a little homework and expand your mind a little ALL of TV has shareholder ownership, joint ventures and other deals with the Saudis - ALL 6 networks which own almost every TV channel out there.

For example - Bloomberg sold out NY and the USA on the 911 Mosque because he wants to keep and expand access to the Islam markets for financial data, software, print media and TV which are worth Tens of billions.

Kelsey Grammer is trying to get one slot for a conservative network and he cannot get on the satellite or on ANY cable system. Your cable or sat TV bill is divided up so each network of the 6 networks gets about $5 to 6 a month.

TV is all about 24x7 brainwashing in between “stupid white men” commercials. I watched a little golf off the internet last night from China on the Golf Channel. Commercial #3 was stupid white man commercial.

TV is NOT mom and Apple Pie. Look at Chronkite - Tet, Kent State, Hanoi jane and all the BS of that era. All a set and got our troops killed. Don’t gove me this go to DU just because you are not bright enough to do even the smallest amount of leg work to see Prince Al Waleed, the Saudis and influence and control over US TV.

F TV. It is evil. It got a Saudi mole elected using $700 million offshore money and you lost your country but you are too stupid to realize it. Bush raised about $200 million when he ran. There is no way Obama raised $700 million domestically.

I get sick of people posting “well the GOP caves and is so week.” Well if any of them step up - they get destroyed by TV. You watch TV - you are helping the left.

Americans swapped their liberty for a TV remote clicker.
