The TSA calls them another weapon in the fight against terrorism.
The machines are meant to detect a wide range of threats. But even children could be picked by an agent to move through one, which doesn't sit well with Michelle Nemphos of Cockeysville.
Her 12-year-old daughter, whom she did not want to appear on camera, was at Tampa International Airport on vacation with a family friend when a TSA officer chose her.
"It's an image of a nude child that they're seeing. This is child pornography whether people want to believe this or not. How is this any different," said Nemphos.
A TSA spokeswoman say the agency's protocol protects privacy. Sari Koshetz says “The officer viewing the image is in a locked room with no windows. The door to the locked room is not opened until the passenger has cleared the checkpoint and the images have been deleted. Should the two officers need to communicate, that is done with whisper headsets."
For Nemphos, that's not enough, not only for her child, but anyone under age 18.
"People think that this is a blurry image. It is not a blurry image. It is an image of a naked person," she said.
Nemphos is still waiting on a response from the TSA.

The images go over a network from scanner to viewer. ANY network can be breached, and the files transferred to SD chips, thumbdrives, etc.

It's not the American way, some other method has to be employed. How about a quick interview, a few direct questions, and body language observations (eye movement, etc.) to trip a more thorough screening.
Also, any Muslim act to down a plane (successful or not) results in a missle strike on a Islamic Holy Site or predominantly Muslim city chosen at random. Second attempt, two missles. Repeat as necessary.
We may not be able to end every attack but will at least get their attention. Retaliate as one would if under attack (because we are).
They've got a lot of jihadis, we've got a lot of missles. Time to use them. Put the ball in their court, see how long they wish to play the game.

I flew the other day and didn’t see a single female go through the scanner...only males.

What's going to happen will be some of these "promptly deleted" images of famous celebs are going to hit the web and then something will get done about it.

That the terrorists have taken an arguably "free" nation and propelled us to the hysterical point where there are those who argue we need to image nude childtren, or even submit (key word, there, submit) to groping, searches, etc. while they cow our government to not profile them is prima facie evidence we are losing the war.
It has nothing to do with military conquest, the chains which the American people are insisting on wearing are forged of their own fear.
Those who would sacrifice essential liberty for safety deserve neither (and won't have either).

I don’t get it. If a terrorist wanted to hide a bomb that was undetectable, they would surgically implant one. All the body cavity searches would never find a bomb buried deep in the intestinal cavity.
All these body searches and massively expensive scanners are just more of the “do something about it” stuff to make the sheeple think they are being protected.
The terrorists are probably looking at easier targets than airplanes anyway.

Well the idea of terrorists is to create consternation even if they can’t create physical damage. Terrorists have to be loving this.
