Sarah Palin's Program is NOT Reality TV
November 15, 2010 | This Just In

Posted on 11/15/2010 11:38:17 AM PST by This Just In

I am confident that by now, you have all read about Sarah Palin's Alaska program. I'm also confident that you have all been witness to the MSM's overtime/overkill effort to destroy Sarah Palin's reputation.

One of the barrage of tactics the MSM has been resorting to is to brand Sarah Palin's Alaska as a "reality tv" show. Some of your have been guilty of assisting the MSM by posting stories which include the description of this particular show as being a "reality" program.

I would like to encourage all my fellow Freepers out there to call the show what it really is; a travel program. Let us refrain from helping the MSM in their consumed desire to destroy the Palin family's reputation and political endeavors.

Its a program about the largest state in the union...Too many people haven't got the slightest idea of the size of Alaska....thats why they raise a fuss about oil in the national reserve in Alaska...that reserve is larger than a lot of states and the 2000 acres they want to pump oil from is a dot on the map of Alaska...

Life in Alaska is a lot different from the lower 48. I liked it also...Alaska also has a rain forest.

This show is something that is below the office of the Presidency, or more, below what someone seeking that office should be doing (a year prior to running for that office).

Agree with 90% of her politics. But this show is a bad idea. If the Obama's had something like this going on in 2007 everyone would be saying the exact same thing.

And why is it Palin bashing because I don’t like her show or any reality show?

I watched it for about ten to fifteen minutes last night, and I’ve got to be honest: I like governor Palin a lot, but it made me a little uncomfortable, because it felt to me like I was watching a reality TV show. I don’t think I’m going to be watching any of the rest of it.

"I've got to be honest" as compared to your usual state of dishonesty?

I've got to be honest, making you a "little uncomfortable" in all honesty, is probably one of Sarah's biggest goals.

If it were reality TV, they'd show Todd and Sarah in bed, honest, they would.

Folks {including me on occasion} that declare their honesty and sincerity, get on my last, frayed nerve.

Sarah Palin in the Alaska looks like a Sarah Palin Infomercial to me.

Certainly it’s not a “travel program”, as it has Palin Family Drama, not just a travelogue.

And I guess it could be called a “documentary”, but only by the definition that would make “Little People, Big World” and “Kate minus John Plus Eight” documentaries.

Heck, they even had Kate on the show. We’ve been calling these TLC shows reality shows, because they are following real people.

Maybe the complaint is that most “reality shows” are in fact UNREAL, like all the “competitive” shows like Dancing with the Stars and Survivor. These are called “reality television”, but really are game shows.

So, sure, this show is not a game show. But it is a TLC reality show. Not sure why someone thinks changing the category of the show makes a difference, or how doing a travel program would make someone look more presidential than doing a reality TV series.

Heck, I might well vote for Matt Roloff if he ran for office — he seems to have some grasp of what it takes to make it in this world, and how to do it without the government (I loved his rant about the inspectors coming to his farm to shut down Halloween).

Nothing on TV ever is “real” per se. Given the constraints of air time, story editing, and other production values, all anyone is given is a window of what was filmed, and nothing more.

To those who think it’s a travelogue, it’s a travelogue. To those who think otherwise, it’s whatever you think it is: Documentary, Reality TV, etc. In which case, the show seems to be all of the above, and from what I’ve read from the comments, it is working out as such. (And why not work all angles possible?) Whatever anyone thinks of the program, the final objective is a positive outcome: Good ratings (people gotta make money for their efforts), positive public response, and in turn, a positive boost to Sarah Palin’s public image and persona.

I wish the Palin family much success in all their objectives in having this foire aired. I doubt it will sway the bias of the lame-stream media and other leftist idealogues—their hatred runs so deep, it’s shameful and scary; but for those who are on the fence about Sarah Palin (and Alaska for that matter), I hope this works in her favor.

*Palm note to self: Look into that Alaska cruise.*

You wouldn’t describe Leave It To Beaver as a reality show, now would you?

I thought you were a Palin supporter. But you are comparing her show to a fictional TV family? Isn't that the opposite of supporting her?

Of course, I regularly point out how horribly bad Palin's supporters treat her when trying to mold her into THEIR image of the perfect Presidential Candidate. I would feel sorry for her, except that I have much more respect for her than to think she needs anybody apologizing, making excuses, "defending", or feeling sorry for her.

Well if a Democratic talking point is “I don’t like reality TV”...then I guess I’m a Democrat! /sarcasm

I’m no sure why no one but me gets it.

Sarah is defining herself to the American public without the intervention of the MSM.

It is possible that one of the attributes of that definition is “high energy outdoorsman”. Sound familiar? It should as it was part of Teddy Roosevelt’s definition of himself.

She is doing a terrific job of defining herself.

No doubt!

All I said was that I don’t like reality t.v. shows, and suddenly I’m a troll!

With debating skills and the ability to discern the enemy like se_ohio_young_conservative displays, it’s no wonder Ohio went to Obama in 2008!
