Coke packages say "Merry Christmas" this year in contrast to last year's "Holiday 2009"

In December 2009, there was a thread here on Free Republic outlining the fact that Coca-Cola had released "holiday" packaging that said "Feliz Navidad" in Spanish, but "Holiday 2009" in English. Some were outraged because it appeared that Christmas was okay to acknowledge in Spanish, but not in English. It seems that Coke has learned their lesson and for their 2010 packaging, they use the English greeting "Merry Christmas".

Click here to read the original 2009 Free Republic article on this matter.

Click here to see an image containing both the 2009 and 2010 Coke package designs with the "Holiday 2009", "Feliz Navidad", and "Merry Christmas" messages.

I’m glad they did it, but I’m cynical enough to question their motives. All in all, I don’t think it is going to feel very much like our run-of-the-mill Christmas this year. If the election was held in January the Repubs would’ve taken the Senate as well...

Now we will be awaiting the 2011 Publix supermarket calendar to see if they recognize Pearl Harbor Day which was omitted last year in favor of highlighting Mulsim holidays.

I think election day should be after Thanksgiving instead of right after Halloween. Too many people expect to get free treats from the govt.

Are they putting 'Merry Christmas' on the packages already? Don't get me wrong, i'm glad they say Merry Christmas instead of happy holiday or whatever, but its a bit early.

P.S. Marking my calender. I heard Christmas music on November 5th this year. November 5th. Really, I think I would be sick of Christmas by Dec. 1st if I started listening to Christmas music so darn early. It takes away from the specialness of Christmas, and really, Thanksgiving too, to be playing it 2 months ahead. I mean, with Halloween decorations still floating around, I was hearing Christmas music. Surreal almost.

I’m glad they did it, but I’m cynical enough to question their motives.

I, for one, try to avoid shopping in stores that don't call Christmas "Christmas." I try to avoid products that have generic "holidays" commercials. That's hard to do but if there is a store or product that uses the dreaded "C" word, I go out of my way to try to patronize them. I'm sure Coke may be noticing consumers that do this and hopefully, other producers and stores will respond accordingly.

Why these companies ever decided to do Happy Holidays is beyond me. 200 years of marketing says it was just plain stupid.

I'm not sure if it changed the bottom line...sales...but I'd rather have THE MAJORITY of people come and go from my store or buy my product and have a smile on my face.

I refuse to go to my works “Holiday Party”... If it ain’t a Christmas Party it’s nothing.

When you think about it, why would anyone who’s “offended” by the word Christmas, go to a Holiday Party?

I once worked for a company that had a Christmas party. Then it became a holiday party. Last I heard it was a winter party.

It’s all about the Benjamins. In this economy, they cannot afford to piss off consumers by being politically correct. They instinctively understand that this is a Judeo-Christian nation and the P.C. crap grates on the majority of the consuming public. They can afford to flip the bird to us in fat times. They can’t risk angering us in these lean times.

“...its a bit early”

I started working on Anna Little’s (sadly, losing) congressional campaign in mid-July.

By the time we were done on November 3rd I was exhausted.

Imagine my despair at seeing Christmas commercials that first weekend when I finally watched a football game.
