New York Times article details Palin's political machine.

Sarah Palin has clarified for the first time in a newly published interview that she is seriously considering a presidential run.

"I am," Palin told New York Times writer Robert Draper when asked if she was weighing a run in 2012. "I'm engaged in the internal deliberations candidly, and having that discussion with my family, because my family is the most important consideration here."

In a personal profile to be published in the upcoming New York Times Magazine, Palin said her decision would involve "evaluating whether she could bring unique qualities to the table," admitting the biggest challenge would be proving her record.

I think Sarah undermined her credibility by bailing on the governorship. And I think that is what is reflected in the big polls. She should get elected to another office before trying to run for president.

I know Andrew Jackson resigned from the Senate halfway through his term in 1825 and by 1828 he was president.

Yeah, "I resign" means I quit. You can spin it all you want but facts is facts.

Andrew Jackson resigned from the Senate halfway through his term in 1825 and by 1828 he was president.

What's your spin on that?

Palin has a great personal story, and by God she absolutely knows how to make all the right enemies.

But I still think that too many of the voters in the mushy middle see her as that ditz who is played by Tina Fay.

And without enough of those middle voters you can't win, no matter how popular you are in the echo chamber of the conservative blogosphere.

I'll vote for her if she is the nominee, but I am way short of endorsing her in the primaries at this point.

“Newts a joke with no chance.

Mitt is a serious contender, but will not win.

Huck is a joke and will not run.

John who?

Rick Perry will join the race and have a shot.

Palin will be the one to beat, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she joined a Perry ticket (they are friends)”

I think you’re right. Perry has been positioning for this for a long time. 2012 is the most likely reason he ran for this term as Gov of Texas. He needs the springboard of being some sort of incumbent to be taken seriously for the run. He’s got enough experience as an officeholder to be a frontrunner on that basis alone. He’s seen as conservative by most of the nation, even if he doesn’t quite qualify by FR or Texas standards. The fact that he’s seen by the hardline right as somewhat “squishy” may actually be a positive for him with indies and non-FReepers. He’d definitely have the NRA and gunny support, and if he handles the current Texas budget problems at all well, he can get the support of the fiscal conservative and National Review traditional Right. Texas’ relatively good economic times vis-a-vis the rest of the country would definitely help also.

Perry/Palin.. governors of the 2 largest states in the Union has some attraction to it. And the 2 largest energy (oil and NG) states.
They’d have some problems to overcome with the more “paleo” right, but that could be spun fairly easily.

I also thing Perry has a decent chance of beating Obama, probably more than Palin does, unless there’s some more dirt on him than I’ve seen so far.

Good point. In some strange ways, I see parallels between Jackson and Palin. Both from the frontier. Both seemed “unpolished” to the upper class who wanted to control everything. Both were popular with ordinary folks. Both liked states rights, but respected the role of the federal government. And both knew how to handle a gun.

There comes a time where conservatives need to stop running away from the media lies and instead they need to fight them head-on.

I think the time is now.

I think Sarah undermined her credibility by bailing on the governorship.

You know, many politicians resign from their current elected position to run for a higher office, and no one calls them a 'quitter' They understand it.

She was facing legal bills of $500,000 (and never ending) and her political enemies were using her position of elected office holder to destroy her and her family.

They recognized they had to destroy her, to kill all political aspirations while in their infancy.

It's one of the reasons I admire her so. She has faced the most unbelievable and dirty smears and lies, the attempts to destroy her have been really amazing. Yet she has taken it all on with a smile and is still standing. She is far more powerful and has far more clout now than she did as Governor.

This is a political tsunami, and you underestimate her at your peril...

“voters in the mushy middle see her as that ditz who is played by Tina Fay.’

Those same ditzy middlers will fall for her personal story, once she controls the narrative. They’ve aready heard all of the negative stuff.

Reagan had the same problem 2years out and even 2 months out.

Here’ the deal on the 2012 Presidential election:

1) It is a referendum on Obama. If he is above 51% approval with Gallup in fall 2012 he will win. If he is below 47% approval he will not win a second term. And if he is between 47%-51% he is in no man’s land where anything could happen. If I had my druthers I would expect #2 or #3 scenario to be the case in 2012.

2) Here’s the straight dope:

Many polls are of a consensus that only 40% of the American electorate feel that Obama deserves re-election while over half do not.

The Democrats only received the vote of 37% of WHITE voters in the midterm election. The GOP got 60%. Even if Obama can rally more minority voters to come out in 2012, if the GOP duplicates that result the GOP nominee will win back the White House. In last week’s Gallup Weekly Summary Obama had slipped further back with WHITE voters at 33%.

Quite honestly, the only way Obama can win re-election as I see it now without any marked improvement in the economy is if a viable 3rd party candidate emerges (with the help of George Soros)to bleed white conservative votes away from the GOP nominee in 2012.

Notice I have not mentioned the name of the former governor of Alaska in my piece. That is deliberate. The 2012 will not be about her but the current occupant in the WH. If the American electorate decides to fire Obama they will vote for the former governor of Alaska, and yes some will do that even though they have misgivings about her. Do you think that everyone that voted for Reagan in 1980 were rock-ribbed conservatives or convinced he would be a good POTUS? The answer is no. But they were all convinced from what they heard Reagan say that he could be no worse than Carter.

Yeah, and they said Bristol couldn’t dance...how’d that turn out for ya?

OK, now I’m going to have to start voting on Dancining just so I can use that line.

“Sarah Palin is unelectable”
“Bristol can’t dance, but she still won”

It is a referendum on Obama.

President Cloward-Piven won't be running. Never planned on a second term. Doesn't need one.

The goal was to inflict the maximum amount of damage in the minimum amount of time, and he has accomplished his goal.

In another four years he is going to be Secretary-General (eligibility is a non-issue) of the United Nations, a United Nations with global taxing authority, which will make it the de facto world government.

Sarah Palin has been vetted for three years now (2.9 years more than Obama) and they STILL can't destroy her.

The Tea Party is all about destroying business-as-usual among the ruling class.

You go ahead and put up one of your Washington insiders and see what happens.

“and they wouldn’t go after her and her family if she was president?”

They wouldn’t be operating under the same rules as in Alaska. The President is not open to the kind of charges that ordinary Alaskans (or in this case, paid Democratic operatives) can file, nor is the President prevented from having others contribute to a legal defense fund, which is prohibited by the Alaska ethics rules.
More to the point: A President doesn’t have to pay his own legal fees to the point of personal and family financial ruin like the Governor of Alaska does.

different playing field, different ground rules.

and they wouldn’t go after her and her family if she was president?

They wouldn't be able to sue her in court, no.

They were suing her for phony ethics violations, all of which were dismissed, but it was putting a terrible cost on her family and the state.

This is not about her being 'tough' enough to handle criticism. She has handled that better than anyone on the current political scene, and for you to suggest that shows you are not addressing this honestly. You want to snipe. Pathetic.

Her resignation was an act of selflessness, knowing she would be criticized by her haters and those not bright enough not to go along with at fake media narrative.

It is sad to see FReepers repeating the fake media narrative, remember, this is the same media who told us Obama was a Messiah.

So who is your candidate? Who is this model of perfection we can vote for?

>>>>>I think there is a good chance she could pick Romney as a VP candidate...

If Palin decides to run, she'll do so with the intention of winning. Choosing someone like Romney as her running mate would assure defeat. While GHW Bush was a true moderate, Romney is a liberal pretending to be a conservative and obviously fooling many folks in the process.

I’m not looking for perfection. I was addressing what I think is a major obstacle she would need to overcome to get elected president.

I know Andrew Jackson resigned from the Senate halfway through his term in 1825 and by 1828 he was president.

There would be a number or parallels between Sarah Palin and Andrew Jackson.

Jackson was considered too uncoth and uneducated to be president by the elite of the day.

Jackson ran against the Washington establishment.

Jackson was very religious (and open about it).

Jackson’s supporters were stereotyped as uneducated rubes.

Jackson was accused of lowering the prestige of the presidency.

Jackson was at the forefront of a movement that challenged the entrenched interests in Washington.

While I don’t agree with everything Jackson did, when you look over his entire life span (not just the years he was in the White House) there is no doubt Jackson was one of the most important/infulential men in American history.

While Palin hasn’t led men into battle (and saved the southern US from foriegn rule) she very well—like Jackson—become the figurehead of a larger movement. An anti-Washington; anti-establishment; anti-elite; return the power to the people political movement.

If Sarah doesn’t run, then I’d take Pence and Daniels, both Hoosiers. No more RINOs. The only way I would vote for a RINO is if it’s the general and the alternative is a Hillary or a re-elected Obama.

Backatcha on that!
