Meg Whitman's former maid gets $5,500 in back wages

Meg Whitman's former maid today was awarded $5,500 in back wages she claimed was owed to her from the former candidate for governor.

Nicky Diaz Santillan and her celebrity attorney, Gloria Allred, met this morning at the California Division of Labor Standards and Enforcement in San Jose, seeking more than $10,000. She said she was owed the money for work she did beyond the 15 hours a week for which she was paid during the nine years she worked for Whitman. Santillan said she was asked to perform jobs, including running errands and grocery shopping, that fell outside of her paid housekeeping duties.

"We do our best for our employers and in return all we ask is to be treated with respect and to be paid for all the work we do," Santillan said on the sidewalk outside the downtown San Jose building after the hearing. "We do all this because we need to support our families and to give our children a better future."

It's unclear whether Whitman attended the conference.

Her attorney on the scene, Dennis Brown, called the settlement "routine," saying the only reason the issue was heard was because there were no time cards involved.

If all she got was $5,500 then Allred took a bath on that case.

I think the point is that labor must be paid no matter what their legal status.

Seems pretty petty.

But then we are talking about Gloria Allred.

That's odd. Every single job description I've ever read, usually at the end, essentially says "and anything else your boss tells you to do."

It was never about the money. Allred/Brown won on this one.

I’m sorry, when is she being deported for breaking the LAWS of the United States of America? I bet she can get that money converted to pesos at the Greyhound Bus Station!

This wasn't about money, it was about denying Whitman any chance of winning enough Hispanic votes to have a shot at beating Brown. The ploy worked as planned, Allred's dirty tricks worked perfectly.

How can you prove that over a nine-year period? Oops! I forgot that we are talking about illegals, lawyers and democrats as well as the state of California; a genetic predisposition for lying.

“It was never about the money. Allred/Brown won on this one.”

Yep, you are 100% correct. This was always about hurting Whitman in the election and nothing else. Diaz was a willing pawn, and Allred will probably use her settlement victory as legal cover from any potential ethics charges.

(All in my non-legal opinion, of course)

NOTE WELL---BAllred is NOT bringing this case to court. That's b/c a litigant has to come to court with "clean hands"---meaning they broke no laws before coming to court.

This illegal is filthy as all getout.

These illegals are damn scary---they break the law with complete impunity, then collect all they can.

Why isn't this creep being hustled back to Mexico instead of pocketing US dollars?

God knows what other freebies she's sucking up on the backs of working class Americans.

The bath Allred SHOULD take is losing her license for ineffective assistance of counsel for having her idiot client go for a few felonies on network and cable TV. But that requires a grievance to be filed with the California Bar Assn. If anyone, say Meg Whitman, ever gets around to it.

Allred got paid, we just don’t know who paid her. The last minute stunt worked.
