WASHINGTON (AFP) – Sikh Americans are protesting at what they say is a new policy at US airports to screen their turbans systematically, voicing fear the move would further stigmatize their faith.
US officials have not confirmed a change in policy and insisted they respected religious beliefs. But they said security measures necessitated checks on "bulky" clothing such as turbans, which Sikh men are required by faith to wear.
A group of Sikh American groups said they met several weeks ago with representatives of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) who told them that airports would now screen turbans with hand-wands at all times.
Current policy is erratic, with New York City airports rarely conducting secondary searches on Sikhs but airports in other cities such as Chicago and San Francisco doing so routinely, said Amardeep Singh, co-founder of the Sikh Coalition advocacy group.
"The TSA told us, point blank, that turbans will now be screened 100 percent of the time," Singh told AFP on Monday.

These aren’t muslim turbans though. There will be an exemption to say muslim turbins won’t be inspected.
But that’s okay, you see- sikhs don’t spontaneously combust in a screech of “ALLAH!” upon sighting infidels.
So that kind of profiling is perfectly okay by TSA standards.

Further stigmatize their faith? NOT! More like the move would validate some tiny measure of the hostilty their “faith” has EARNED by its vast and endless murderoous aggression. They should complain how the “radicals” of their “faith” have “stigmatized” it....the first such blood thisty murderous terrorist being the founder of the cult their unholy prophet.
Next, the TSA agents turds will be saying to our Moroccon brothers, "I don't know your name, but the FEZ looks familiar, now please remove it for my comrade to inspect while I fondle, er, pat down your genitalia".

It’s unlikely that a real Sikh would be a threat, but if they are given an exemption, some jihadi could easily put on a Sikh turban and pass right through.
Sikhs aren’t Muslim. So far as I know there have been no examples of Sikhs conducting terrorist attacks against the West. So, no, it’s not profiling. Just more of the same catchall TSA BS.

Definitely going to bring about a backlash of “special cases” and situations based upon some interesting dynamics calling for exceptions to the “new” TSA screening procedures...
Remember when the TSA “mistakenly” posted their entire manual online for everyone to see (last year or so) what their procedures were at the time???
Makes you wonder if that wasn’t intentional to get these new “plans” implemented...

they sure as hell should inspect turbans.
They should also similarly inspect MUSLIMS, but they don’t.

Gr4eat point! Why is it not okay to search people who look like the people who attacked us? What happens when a woman travels in a burkah (sp)? Will she get a pass while our 3 year olds are frisked? How many explosive materials can be detected with a hand wand...In fact, how many explosives are made out of metal? These folks are clueless.
Not against the West as such, but the victims of Air India might beg to differ since they loaded the bombs in Vancouver.
