The North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission will no longer be selling liquor products with an alcohol content of 190 proof beginning December 1.
The move comes after the Mecklenburg County ABC noticed these liquors were being purchased almost entirely at stores located near college campuses.
"The ABC Commission has long been concerned that young adults drinking nearly pure alcohol are especially vulnerable to alcohol poisoning," said Jon Williams in a press release.
With the delisting, the highest proof liquor sold in ABC stores will now be 151 proof. A 190 proof Everclear item will be replaced by a 151 proof Everclear item and a Diesel 190 proof product will not be replace.

Lol. We used the big waist-high, gray plastic garbage cans, lined with the big garbage bags.
Everyone brings a bottle of *something*, and it all gets poured in together, along with "Hi C" fruit punch. We also used to add sliced fruit, "borrowed" from the cafeteria. Then stirred it with a canoe paddle one guy on the floor had.
We ate the fruit slices the next morning. "Hair of the dog".
Ah, to be young, and have the constitution and stamina to do that again. ;o)
This pretty much takes our state out of the running for the Darwin Awards. Now it’s up to Florida.
Heck, it’s North Carolina. Don’t need no daggone liquor store. You can still it at home from corn squeezins if ya know what you’re doin. If not, I know a guy outside of Greensboro...

Several years ago some fruit and tomato juices went from can to plastic bottle. there was a discussion of top company execs as to whether they should put an additive in them to give them the “can” taste.
So when you boil that stuff, how much alcohol do you lose?
I use grain alcohol in my cake decorating. It turns powdered colors into a paint I can use on fondant, which then dries completely leaving no flavor behind.

According to the recipe, the non-alcoholic components are boiled together first, then the alcohol is added and “gently heated” so little of it would be lost.
yup, I use it routinely in my art conservation projects. It’s especially useful as a varnish solvent for shellac and some acrylic resins. and, as you say, selectively cleaning degraded varnish films.
I use “Clear Springs” 190 proof for herbal extracts and other herb stuff I make like cough syrup, skin tonics and so on.
Thankfully it’s still legal in my state. Not very cheap though, about $15 for 750 ml, I think that’s how it’s written, 3/4 of a liter.

You’d have to be blind to miss the relationship between conservatives and nanny-ism.
All I can say is stay away from the bathtub gin if you find yourself going blind!
BS, there’s plenty of states already where you cannot buy 190 proof alcohol. Take off the tinfoil hat.
You should still be able to fire breathe at anything over 100 proof.
