“Proof” refers to the method once used to test alcohol content, 190 proof is 95% alcohol. It’s meant to be diluted and flavored to produce homemade cordials, drinking it straight is an act of madness.

At the end of the video is a little "seat of the pants" estimation of the proof of the brew.

One capful Grave’s Grain Alcohol to 12 ounces of Hawaiian Punch, add ice, stir. Sit down in recliner and giggle at pretty much everything for the next eight hours or so...

Get a plastic pail or wastebasket, fill that sucker up with all the liquors we can pour and mix with about a gallon or so of juice. You’ll need a liver transplant the next day.

Lol. We used the big waist-high, gray plastic garbage cans, lined with the big garbage bags.

Everyone brings a bottle of *something*, and it all gets poured in together, along with "Hi C" fruit punch. We also used to add sliced fruit, "borrowed" from the cafeteria. Then stirred it with a canoe paddle one guy on the floor had.

We ate the fruit slices the next morning. "Hair of the dog".

Ah, to be young, and have the constitution and stamina to do that again. ;o)

This pretty much takes our state out of the running for the Darwin Awards. Now it’s up to Florida.

Stupid bureaucrats. The kids will just drive out of town to buy the 190 proof and get stoned there!

What y’all need there is some moonshine to liven things up!

***Hi-C in galvanized steel was a bad idea. Vitamin C =Citric Acid. The acid eats in the galvanizing and will poison the fluid.***

Several years ago some fruit and tomato juices went from can to plastic bottle. there was a discussion of top company execs as to whether they should put an additive in them to give them the “can” taste.

So when you boil that stuff, how much alcohol do you lose?

I use grain alcohol in my cake decorating. It turns powdered colors into a paint I can use on fondant, which then dries completely leaving no flavor behind.

I am so tired of nannies thinking I am Homer Simpson.

Either move the colleges or move the store. Problem solved.

According to the recipe, the non-alcoholic components are boiled together first, then the alcohol is added and “gently heated” so little of it would be lost.

yup, I use it routinely in my art conservation projects. It’s especially useful as a varnish solvent for shellac and some acrylic resins. and, as you say, selectively cleaning degraded varnish films.

Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissions are hold overs from Prohibition. Iowa had a similar state run liquor monopoly when I lived there and had in their state run stores a poster proclaiming the "doublethink" that Iowas was 37th in liquor consumption, but 17th in state revenues from liquor sales. In the twisted logic of the liquor monopoly they were successful because they didn't want people to to easily drink, but maximize revenue from liquor sales. The political cartoonist from the Des Moines Register lampooned the liquor monopoly by depicting Carrie Nation as a clerk in an Iowa state liquor store telling a customer that their purchase would be $17.47 and ..May God have mercy on your soul.

I use “Clear Springs” 190 proof for herbal extracts and other herb stuff I make like cough syrup, skin tonics and so on.

Thankfully it’s still legal in my state. Not very cheap though, about $15 for 750 ml, I think that’s how it’s written, 3/4 of a liter.

Got any proof that conservatives don’t want 190 proof alcohol legal?

You’d have to be blind to miss the relationship between conservatives and nanny-ism.

All I can say is stay away from the bathtub gin if you find yourself going blind!

BS, there’s plenty of states already where you cannot buy 190 proof alcohol. Take off the tinfoil hat.

You should still be able to fire breathe at anything over 100 proof.
