Dear God Almighty, WHY do we have to suffer such fools????

Because we no longer have the balls to just shoot them outright. THAT'S why.

Get outta here and go enjoy what life there is left to live, and pray that every word of the bible is true, 'cuz last-second Divine Intervention is the only way we're getting out of this self-destruct sequence alive.

Well, at least there will be more “jobs saved” at the sign companies.

I hear you.

And I am not joking. Certain forms of gross stupidity — and this certainly qualifies — SHOULD be a capital crime punished by immediate execution, if for no other reason than to improve the species by eliminating obviously defective genes!

Furious? So what, nobody DOES anything. Why doesn’t somebody stand up and yell: “Enough!”? Until someone, anyone does something, anything to stop the madness, it will get worse. Much worse.

SURE, YOU MAY PROCESS THIS FASTER BUT WHAT THEN? IS YOUR REACTION TIME ANY BETTER? CAPITAL LETTERS AREN’T THAT GREAT; THEY BLEND TOGETHER.

vs.

The uppercase & lower case signs provide contrast that we are used to when reading.

They already did that back in Alice, Texas when I was a kid in the 50’s.

All stop signs had the words “STOP ALTO” on them. No exceptions. And that was back in the 50’s!

The joke back here in those days was “who is Alto?”

I wonder how this will affect my little former home town.
Until about 1960 it had no street signs – locals knew what the streets were. My father was a member of a civic organization (VFW?) and they decided we needed street signs. They bought and installed street signs, really nice sand cast signs made at a local small foundry, not painted sheet metal. All have upper case letters. When I visited this year the same signs were still in place.

They added a bunch of new signage around here, we figure it may have been stimulus. What it is, is extra signs. Before you get to a light, there’s a big sign with a picture of a traffic light and the name of the cross street. It’s asinine. The signs are in view of the intersection, and if you can’t see the traffic light at that point then you shouldn’t be driving. Most of the time (I bet) people run lights because they don’t want to stop, not because they don’t see it. The other day I watched not one, but 2 cars (that were stopped!) drive through a red light in front of a fire truck because(I suppose) they were in such a hurry they couldn’t wait for all the trucks to exit the station. Unbelievable.

From the article: “The American Traffic Safety Services Association — which represents companies that make signs and the reflective material used on them — lobbied hard for the new rules. And at least one key study used to justify the changes was funded by the 3M Corporation, one of the few companies that make the reflective material now required on street signs.”

What Congressman/senator accepted these lobbying funds? That’s the real question.

Also,,,,,will these new signs help the 50 illegals in our town suddenly be able to read English? How about spending that money enforcing the traffic laws we have now? ….not to mention the fact that these people who are driving illegally don’t have any insurance either.

Talk about a**backwards government.

This rates right up there with The federal gov't saying that universities can't use e -readers in lieu of text books because the blind can't use them. They said it was a violation of "equal access". Well, guess what federal lackwit, they can't read regular textbooks, either. BTW, the kindle has a "text to speech" function. In other words, the device will read the book to you.

Which friend of Obama owns the companies that manufacture street signs?

I suspect that this is a similar genesis, in the MUTCD, as the replacement of wood posts for freeway guardrails with steel posts. A big payoff to special interests.

The article bases this upon the MUTCD (Manual of Traffic Control Devices) becoming the defacto Traffic Code nationally and internationally.

That particular manual, in the past, had a wide swath of possible signage applications and was phrased to allow local municipalities determine the explicit flavor of signage and markings used in their jurisdiction.

In the past few years, the code has been substituted for many State Traffic Codes, thereby placing a more universal traffic code in place for local jurisdictions.

It reveals more of a globalization trend in legislation than respecting local codes.

Considering the populous is told there is less and less fuel, and architectural design favors more and more centralization of local communities with less and less transportation, if anything, there should be more and more diversity between communities. Instead, freedoms are being removed to try and force more equality between all people.

Pretty soon we’re all so equal that none of us will be free.

Seems that it was Monsanto who lobbied for this insanity.

Time for the states to JUST SAY NO
