But I think this is a trick...to make switch grass a subsidized crop...because I don’t believe it has any value on its own...so farmers wind up getting paid premium for something they would never even think of growing.

He should have invested in a fine Tennessee whiskey:

George Dickle knows how to turn corn into something cost effective. Charcoal filtered and far better than the other well-known brand! :)

(No, my interest is only on the drinkin side.)

He went further, saying that he supported ethanol production because the first presidential primary is in Iowa, which produces more ethanol than any other state: “I had a certain fondness for the farmers in the state of Iowa because I was about to run for president," he said. Gore also said that the “massive subsidies” given to ethanol are not “good policy.”

I despise Al Gore, but I have to admit that every now and then he can be extremely frank about how his motivations have been driven purely by political considerations.

Clarence Thomas told a similar story in his autobiography. During his Senate confirmation hearings and Al Gore was a U.S. Senator, Gore was very open about his approach: He thought Clarence Thomas would make a fine Supreme Court justice and would vote for his confirmation under normal circumstances, but Gore also had possible presidential aspirations and intended to vote against Thomas' confirmation if he decided to move forward with a presidential bid in 1992 or 1996.

Clarence Thomas said this ultimately didn't help his own cause in the confirmation process, but he actually found that kind of honesty refreshing.

There are times - like this one - when I hate democrats...

As much as I loath AlGore I give him credit for admitting his mistake here. I doubt he will otherwise recant because he has money invested in other harebrained eco schemes that would never see the light of day without Federal handouts.

Will Congress heed his advice and end the corn industry’s $7 billion subsidy

Not with all the money big agriculture pumps into politicians' campaign accounts.

This is what happens when you let failures and drop-outs with double-digit IQs pretend to be smart and run things.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Lying bastard. He used ethanol to become a billionaire. Pure selfish deceit. He still travels on private Gulfstream jets and uses SUVs on the ground.

***For three decades, the ethanol industry has been claiming that their hydrophilic, corrosive, low-heat-content fuel is cutting America’s need for foreign oil. ****

Some would not believe me when I said this bagan under CARTER.

I remember back then surplus seed corn treated, with mercury (an anti-fungicide), was distilled into alcohol and the dregs fed to dairy cattle. This contaminated thousands of gallons of milk and the herds had to be destroyed. Not even fit for hamburger because of mercury.
