North Korea Will Listen, but Only to F-22s
American Enterprise Institute (AEI) for Public Policy Research ^ | November 29, 2010 | Michael Auslin, Resident Scholar at AEI

Posted on 12/01/2010 9:52:04 AM PST by EnjoyingLife

"A squadron of F-22s should be sent to Osan Air Base in South Korea and start conducting air patrols along the DMZ and over South Korean territory that is targeted by the North. Anything that fires on the F-22s should be destroyed, just as the North should have destroyed the artillery guns that attacked its island this week. Let the F-22s show they have a real role to play in protecting our allies and in operating with impunity in conflict areas, just as they were designed to do. And let the message get through to Pyongyang that if we want to, we can buzz Kim Jong-il's breakfast room."

"...just as the North should have destroyed the artillery guns that attacked its island this week"

Perhaps the resident scholar meant "south" instead of "north"?

A squadron is not needed — one or two should be enough to own the skies and the ground.

Has the world turned upside down?

We could destroy every single aircraft the Norks have with old Air National Guard F-16C’s. So it’s a bit ridiculous to use the Nork nuttiness to shill for Lockheed Martin here.

SO true. When the North goes too far, and they will, lets not go out of our way to make it a fair fight.

Predators are not stealthy. They are vulnerable to AAM and SAM missiles, unlike Raptors. So far, UAVs have only been introduced into theaters where (for the most part) we've enjoyed total air supremacy. The Raptors are what gives us that air supremacy primarily by destroying the enemy radar installations and tactical aircraft.

People posting this stuff are delusional. Obama will do anything to undermine America. Let SK hit N Korea. This is just the yearly shakedown by NK demanding a few billion from SK. It happens all the time. If they want a war - let SK fight it.

I am sick of Americans dying to protect the Sunni Sauids (who have investments and deals in all US TV networks) from the Shia muslims who want the Saudis dead.

This also to distract us from Obama wrecking America and ALL of TV is covering for him.

More macho bullsh*t from another keyboard commando who doesn't have the b@lls to go in harm's way.
Why should one more American life be lost in Korea?
WTH don't the South Koreans protect their own damned country?

Does this guy even know what the role of the F-22 is? It’s A2A superiority, not a ground strike craft. The Norks don’t have anything worth the F-22s time.

BINGO. And in addition you don't forward base them where the other guy can catch them with a surprise attack. In the air the F-22 is darn near invincible. On the ground it is just another target. If we need F-22s in theater keep them in Japan. If we are starting the war they can be moved up. If the North Koreans start the shooting they would either have to bring Japan into the war or fight them in the air.

Moving F-22s onto a Korean air base would be another grand jesture trumping strategic thinking. Like moving the Pacific Fleet from San Diego to Pearl Harbor in 1940. And likely to have similar results.

Zoomie kool aid. Used to hear that ad nauseum about the F-117 too.

The Raptors are what gives us that air supremacy primarily by destroying the enemy radar installations and tactical aircraft.

Raptors have yet to be deployed to a combat theater but if and when they are they'll be accompanied by Prowlers providing SEAD.

Exactly.. Predators backed up by F-18s/A10's.. to destroy the Sam sites(if used).. The Norks will get cleaned out -OR- they will chicken out.. Win-Win the way I see it..

Theater neutron nukes should not be unavailable..

Yeah, I really wasn’t endorsing the Raptor or discussing it’s presumed benefits. I was trying to explain that Predators aren’t a weapon of first engagement, whereas a Raptor clearly is. Whatever that first engagement weapon may be - Raptor, Hornet, Eagle etc - they’re going to do their thing, probably well before the Predator enters the airspace, at least when we’re talking about theaters of combat where the enemy has capable air defenses.

They would be useful for a "Teachable Moment."
