If We Were Politically Correct After Pearl Harbor

What would have happened if we had fought World War II the way we’re fighting the war on Islamic terrorism? What if political correctness guided America in the weeks and months after Pearl Harbor?

On December 8, 1941, Franklin Delano Roosevelt would have come before a joint session of Congress to apologize for the presence of U.S. Marines in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic earlier in the century, and the Spanish-American War. He would have offered to give the Philippines back to Spain and pay reparations.

• He would have referred to December 7, 1941 as “a day pretty much like any other and let’s not make a big deal of it” and cautioned that, “I think that at a time when the country is anxious generally and going through a tough time, then fears can surface, suspicions can surface. We have to make sure that we don’t start turning on each other.” To put the emphasis where it properly belonged, the president would have said that anniversaries of Pearl Harbor would be officially designated National Days of Service.

• America’s slogan would have become “Remember, Pearl Harbor was no one’s fault.”

“We need six party talks with the Japanese, Soviets, UK, Chinese, US, and Hawaiian Indians. Let’s urge everyone to keep a calm head about this. After all, only a few thousand out of our millions and millions of citizens were affected.”

FDR would have immediately denounced any retaliation against Japanese citizens and sent troops to defend Shinto shrines in America.

Schools would launch tolerance course that would have students dress up, learn Japanese phrases, bow to Shinto shrines and buy obscene material from U15 shops. lol

If FDR had been Obama, he would have travelled to Japan - bringing sufficient friends with him to run up a bill of $200 million per day - gone before the Japanese Diet and mumbled some crap or other about how sorry we are that we did whatever-it-is-we-did that made the Japanese so very impatient with us.

Then he would have insisted that all school children begin to study Japanese and that congress sing the Kimigayo before each session. Then he would have cancelled Christmas and instituted National Shinto Day on December 25th.

And that would just be for starters.

We would not have called them Japs, that’s for sure. And that was one of the most complimentary terms.

We must remember that it was only a tiny percentage of military fanatics who attacked us. Most Japanese were tending their beautiful gardens during the attack.

Well with Japanese it was much simpler, it is no that they hated US in particular they just wanted to build their very own asian empire. Their biggest problem was that being dependent on oil imports, when US cut off their supplies over the atrocities that Japanese army was committing in China they were stuck. The big alternative history question is what would happen if Japanese ignored Hawaii, Saipan, Phillipines and only concentrated on British holding like Singapore and Hong Kong.

If we had Obama as president, he would have gone an apology tour and bow before Hitler, Emperor Hirohito, and Il Duce, help rebuild the Ottoman Empire and Islamic Caliphate, then make sure Hitler completed the Final Solution, and have an open borders policy for Russian and Chinese Communists.

Instead of chucking the Churchhill bust out of the Oval Office, he would have sent black ops to assassinate the real Churchill instead.

Our last major friend and trading partner in Europe would be Vichy France.

Roosevelt would call for a face to face meeting with Hirohito and he would bow and scrape and apologize to the emperor for ear damage suffered by Japanese pilots when American ships blwe up below them.

-I stole that from an old, old MAD magazine.

Obama would have said that we can absorb another such attack, and we are better for it.

Or, if they had simply stopped in China and tried to play nice with the USA to buy time. It might have been more like the end of WWI, where the Japanese were the beneficiaries in Asia of the Europeans having killed each other.

He would have referred to Pearl Harbor as an attack “we can absorb”.

My father was a POW being captured from a sunken transport in 1942. He didn’t get home until 1946 due to needing to recover from his captivity. He died on August 6, 1999 and right up to that day he always referred to the Japanese (even in public) as “Slant eyed b**tards*.

He saw things he would not talk about and after he died we got to read his (we call it a diary) recollections that were handwritten in fifteen spiral notebooks. Most of what he experienced is so horrifying that it is amazing that he came through the experience with his sanity intact.
