House, Senate on Collision Course After Dems Reject Tax Cut Bill
Fox ^ | December 09, 2010

Posted on 12/09/2010 12:57:57 PM PST by Red Steel

The House and Senate appear to be on a collision course over President Obama's controversial tax plan, after House Democrats voted to block the package from coming to the floor in its current form.

Though the vote was not binding, the House Democratic caucus on Thursday approved a measure by Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., effectively rejecting the GOP-negotiated deal unless and until a majority of Democrats support it. One Democratic leadership aide said the vote "shows how much the White House screwed this up."

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, meanwhile, told Fox News he expects the Senate to take up the bill anyway without any substantive changes Thursday afternoon. He predicted the measure would pass, a belief echoed by a number of Senate Democratic aides interviewed by Fox News. But that would send the bill straight to the House, where some members are mounting a rebellion.

"If it's take it or leave it, we'll leave it," said Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, after the caucus vote Thursday, adding that he thinks House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will take her cue from the caucus. ...

Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., said "it's a pretty clear message. We don't like the bill."

Headline should read “House Democrats throw middle and low income taxpayers under the bus.”

One thing all Americans understand is how much money they bring home each paycheck.

Fine...let this compromise bill die, and then come back in January with a bill that the new conservatives in the GOP will craft. Bill Clinton made his tax hikes retroactive to the beginning of the tax year in which it was passed, so
Republicans can make the current tax rate retroactive to Jan. 1, and they can make them PERMANENT. It’s a beautiful thing.

Its not a TAX CUT. It’s keeping the status quo. We still need Tax Cuts, lower taxes more, that is the only thing that will bring back the economy.

I guess the 2011 Congress will just have to pass t retroactively. Pelosi just wants to remind everyone why so many Rats lost their seats in November and fired her as Speaker of the House.

You are correct, a less biases headline would read, House Democrats fight for Tax Increases!

Amen, as well as a SSI tax cut for both employer and employee. And a real Income TAX CUT, not the status quo BUSH stuff.

Hmmm...that raises a question for me: she was selected Minority Leader by what amounts to the prior Democratic caucus, at least 63 members of whom will be seeking alternative employment in three weeks.

Is it conceivable that the coming caucus might not force a vote and elect someone else, once her voting bloc is gone?

“House Democrats fight for Tax Increases!”

If they get their way, the lowest tax bracket (10%) will get hit the worst with a 50% increase (to 15%).

Yep, your Democratic party at work - bend over and hold your ankles America!

I would pay to see the fallout if the Dems go ahead and cancel all tax cuts. Maybe late-minute negotiation about canning the unemployment checks would drive them over the edge.

No conservative could vote for this bill....increases in spending and increases in the deficit....they still don't get it. Passage of the bill would be a victory for Obama and RINOs.
