Disarming the toy box - Providence program destroys children’s toy guns (Barf alert!)
The Boston Globe ^ | December 19, 2010 | Maria Cramer

PROVIDENCE — Dominic Johnson, a 10-year-old fourth-grader with a fledgling Mohawk, brandished his black, long-nosed toy gun and caressed the muzzle appreciatively.

“It’s like a shotgun mixed with a rifle,’’ he said, as his mother, April, told him to stop pointing it at nearby children.

Soon it would be junk.

Dominic joined dozens of children yesterday at the annual Toy Gun Bash in the gymnasium of Pleasant View Elementary School. There, they lined up to toss their toy guns, from dainty purple water guns to camouflage-painted pistols, inside the Bash-O-Matic, a large black, foam creature with churning metal teeth and the shape of a cockroach spliced with a frog.

Prodded by Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch, who wore a fuzzy Santa hat, the children stared curiously as the Bash-O-Matic mashed up their guns and digested them into a plastic bin near its tail.

“He ate it,’’ squealed one delighted little girl.

’Tis the season for joy, peace, and grinding up plastic, orange-tipped AK-47s.

For seven years, Providence municipal and law enforcement officials have organized the event around Christmastime as a way to raise awareness of the dangers of playing with guns, real or fake. The event is a mix of the macabre and the playful, a children’s version of the gun buyback program in which adults trade firearms for gift certificates.

Yesterday, younger children ran through a rubber obstacle course while officials told...

--snip--

“It’s one piece of what needs to happen around this issue,’’ said Levin, coauthor of “The War Play Dilemma.’’ “There is also this side of [children] trying to understand why are there guns there, and why do people use them? When kids are getting all kinds of other messages about guns, it’s a more complicated issue than just having one day about how guns are bad.’’

“He ate it,’’ squealed one delighted little girl.

Soon you won't be able to tell the delighted little girls from the delighted little boys.

I hope a few parents are holding back.... then their boys and girls can appear with them, and all the others will wish they had one after all.

Brainwash their innocent minds early enough and they won’t grow up with bothersome outmoded notions like freedom and individual responsibility.

Western culture under attack, personal liberties and freedoms violated left and right by an out-of-control government which is centralizing and nationalizing security, industry, education, and even banks - little children taught to put condoms on cucumbers and to think about anal sex in fourth grade, taxes on the up, up, up, while government does what it can to move jobs abroad and flood our country with impoverished illiterate illegals while fostering revolving-door policies for violent degenerate criminals...

It’s NOT a good time to throw away your guns, kids, and it’s NOT a good time to throw away your Second Amendment freedoms, such as they still exist.

To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, kids, at the dinner table tonight you ask Mom and Dad what the Second Amendment is, and why it matters. And if they don’t know, “You nail ‘em on it.”

Some parents confessed that they bought guns just a couple of days before the event so their children could get a gift or watch the Bash-O-Matic do its work.

Probably the same thugs that turn in their crime guns at no-questions-asked gun buy back programs.

By that age, I already had a BB rifle and pistol and would soon have a real .22 Marlin rifle. They claim Michelle Obama’s food bill was a matter of national security because obesity would keep recruits out of the military, but with the other hand they want to take away toy weapons from boys? WTF?

My 3yo son is getting a Nerf Dart tag set for Christmas. My 7yo daughter wants a .22LR. I'd love to get us a couple sets of the Nerf Lazer Tag pistols. Fun for the whole family.

Screw this liberalism and their stupid fear of firearms.

We need one of these we can use on our friends from the left. We could call it lib-O-matic or a tard removal device. How about starting a club that teaches kids how to shoot and protect themselves.

That's true. Well, at least in the military/sarc

Not in my home. One of my sons is on a robotics team. Break time is always an all out Airsoft war.

All home schooled kids so they can bring their guns to the party

It is absolutely to kill their survival instinct and make them into drones.

The Progressive/Marxists are trying to kill the concept of God so that our rights come from the state. They want a “utopia” on earth imagined by Marx and Gramsci, where everyone is exactly alike, no freedom of thought, no difference between men and women, everyone happy and content.

They envision in this fascist state that there is no evil, so no need for guns.

Marx denies the Nature of Man and the philosophy of thousands of years, and that is why his philosophy is so flawed and evil.

He thinks he can eliminate the evil in man—he is God and can redesign humans with no original sin. That redesign means loss of all freedom of thought and actions—and we need unmanly men to submit.

It is the heterosexual man of character and honor that protected their families that made this country the greatest in the history of man. They knew how to use a gun and were not afraid to use it. They did not cower at evil which today’s “boys” are being conditioned to do.

It was the Christian philosophy of selflessness and sacrifice and human dignity for all that formed the philosophy of these greatest men—like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln, Gen. Patton and Reagan. Marxists need to destroy the character and honor in these men and put sexual lust as a “good” and “promiscuity” to destroy all relationships, esp. the emotional development of the children, so they are easily manipulated by the state indoctrination centers and media.

Only two things will fight this...Faith in God and family.

When I was a kid, every boy had toy guns. We learned to shoot before we were 10 and were hunting by ourselves when we became teenagers. My town had only one shooting in a 75 year period.

Now kids aren't even allowed to own a toy gun or a picture of a gun and gun violence is a big problem. I think that pretty much establishes the fact that toy guns aren't a factor in gun violence.

How appropriate ... leftism is represented by a destructive, diseased pest. Cockroaches destroy your food, and crap on what they don't destroy. Leftists destroy your freedom, and crap on you.

Support the Boy Scouts. Make a donation (easy) or get involved (more difficult, but more rewarding)

Heh...my little boy plays “U.S. Army” and has toy guns laying all over the place...our front yard looks like a war zone. I’m pretty sure that he’s going to turn out OK though.

Let the toy guns burn!!!! We’ll keep our real guns. My 11 year old just added a Daisy 75th anniversary BB gun to his collection. He’s also got a old JC Higgins single shot .22 (passed down for generations) Teach your kids to hunt and fish and you won’t have to hunt and fish for your kids.

So boys in Providence will now use a stick or their finger and yell “bang!” Meanwhile thugs in Providence will STILL have real guns to victimize the citizens with.

So they had FAKE guns brought to school? Did they react with zero tolerance, and suspend every one of these kids? Plus the Attorney General had a “fuzzy Santa hat”? Did the school force him to remove it, because it made non-Christians “uncomfortable”?

I used to hear that. I wondered what the point was, if I couldn't aim and kill the bad guys.
