My fortuneteller told me that the reason all the birds (AR & LA) and the dead fish is related to the coming earthquake at the New Madrid fault.

The LSM is polishing their stories so that they can claim that since Rush is from that area, it is his and all the Tea Party, Conservatives and evil middle aged white men’ s fault.

Obama is so wish that he is not wasting resources on an area that will soon be gone and in two years he will hailed (sic) as a hero to all Americans and Future voters (illegal aliens)

By the way, I am going to win the $330 million lottery tonight.

Got to go and put my tin foil hat on. News time and time for my daily indoctrination.

Last time there was a major birdkill down here, it was hail. Grackles literally covered the ground at a school. Then 2-3 days later, it happened again. All those that were injured and not killed outright the first day.

I recall one time a simular event occured, they said high winds or tornados had forced them up very high and the air temp drops 3 degrees per thousand foot so they froze and dropped to the ground plus the air was so thin at high levals they suffacated.

Interesting- seems possible with the recent tornadoes that hit the area.

After examining the birds found in Arkansas, state officials concluded that they had died as a result of blunt trauma, possibly caused by flying into buildings after being startled by New Year's fireworks.

Were they mostly found at the base of said tall buildings?

If you move to Michigan and live near me you'll love hearing them constantly flying into your bay window in early spring when they return to nest in the cattails at the back of my property.. dumber than Obama...and they do it every year...another freeper suggested they were seeing their reflection in the window and were being territorial...sounds good to me...bam, then they sit on the rail of the deck and squawk.

Probably saying ouch in Red wing blackbird language..

The mid-day roost does not make sense to me. Consider, the sun heats the earth, the earth heats the air - creating upward moving masses of air called ‘Doldrums’. The migratory birds find these doldrums, circle within then and ‘glide’ higher and higher - then leave the doldrum and ‘glide’ to the next one, and repeat.

Gliding is far easier and more efficient than flapping your wings for both altitude and distance - why work, when you can rest?

The night time flocking is a safety precaution, from predators. There is safety in numbers, so if a predator attacks, one ‘sqwalk’ can alert the entire flock; rather than being a lone prey.

The early-morning activity, IMHO is a feeding frenzy - to catch the insects while they are still a little lethargic (until the sun warms them up). Easy meal time - and a meal to last them for the day’s flight.

Just a farm boy’s observations.

My son had some specialized training at Pine Bluff for a police department.

Quite an experience,according to him.

This just keeps getting weirder! Huge numbers of birds supposedly crashing into skyscrapers in remote towns, found in open areas, and reputedly scared by fireworks...although that’s never happened before? The explanation isn’t passing the smell test.

It sounds a lot like the opening scene in the 2003 movie "The Core" (Earth's magnetic core no longer rotates, therefore no magnetic field is produced over the earth, birds need the field for navigation, without it they go crazy, suicidal).

LOL I never see them near the house, only out in the wetlands. My neighbor does have a cardinal that spends the entire breeding season banging into her window. She complains, and I suggested she get a rubber snake or cover the window, but she won't do it. I'm sure your redwing blackbirds are not very smart, they don't call them birdbrains for nothing! :)
