Police in Delaware are slowly piecing together the details surrounding the death of former presidential advisor John P. "Jack" Wheeler III.

It now seems Wheeler spent at least two days wandering the streets of Wilmington disoriented.

Police say Wheeler traveled from Washington, D.C., where he worked, to Wilmington Tuesday on an AMTRAK train. He was last seen alive at 3:30 p.m. Thursday near the Hotel duPont parking garage at 10th and Orange streets.

Iman Goldsborough, the parking lot attendant, encountered a man she believes was Wheeler on Wednesday night near the intersection where he was last officially seen Thursday.

Goldsborough says the man came up to her looking for help finding his car, but he appeared disheveled and disoriented. He was without a coat and unable to find his car.

(According to police, Wheeler's car was parked in his monthly space at the DoubleTree Hotel's garage, closer to the train station.)

The man was wearing a suit and tie but was also only wearing one shoe and carrying the other. He said he wanted to get warm before paying for his ticket. Goldsborough said she thought the man seemed like he was suffering from dementia.

Kathleen Boyer, a security guard at the New Castle County Courthouse, said a man she now believes was Wheeler told her he was dropped off by his brother two days prior so he could visit his mother, in Wilmington. The man did not have any apparent injuries but did mention he was robbed of his briefcase. He was looking for a hotel and wanted to know where Front Street was.

Boyer, and two other employees, offered to help him and even offered him some money, which he declined.

My 84 year old father in law spent 3 days in the hospital because he had an acute episode of confusion, disorientation and memory loss. Brain scan, echo, stress test & carotid ultrasound all normal. BP was a little low. No critters in blood or urine culture. Blood sugar okay.

They knew what it wasn't. No definitive diagnosis.

As it turned out he was driving, became nauseous, pulled over & vomited. Has no memory of anything until he pulled into the driveway, vomited again and vaguely remembers EMT taking him out of the front door. He does not remember going into the house next door, sitting down, watching TV and telling the neighbors the car was too heavy to push.

Besides the mental confusion, he had a low grade fever, 101.5, & was dehydrated. He was given Tylenol and IV fluids. His confusion cleared over the next few hours. They kept him in for more testing.

My theory (as good as anything else at this point) was that he either had a bug or ate breakfast at the wrong place. when he vomited, he threw his
electrolytes out of whack which caused the confusion.

It is possible something similar happened to Wheeler and he met up with the wrong person. Unfortunately no one called anyone, probably assuming he was a drunk.

“Ever hear of rapid onset or ‘sudden’ dementia?”

The coroner ruled his death a homicide.

“Looking a little different? What does that mean?”

The pharmacist was probably referring to the “disheveled” look?

How did he die? Was he shot, stabbed, poisoned? Do we know? This sounds a lot like Arkancide, where the victims shot themselves in the back of the head with a rifle.

Fair enough. I have never heard of SF. Some co-worker sent it to me out of the blue. I could tell it was BS conspiracy type nonsense but thought it interesting still.

Many times acute symptoms are mistaken for intoxication.

Must be it, altho you would think that’s what he would have said. If someone told me someone was “looking a little different” I would think they meant a new hairdo or a change in style or a tan or something. Maybe that’s a girl thing. :)

I think sometimes it’s just often to know what is being said *out there*. As soon as I read Putin I put it in my *crazy and not to be believed* file, but still, I read it.

I was not speaking to the cause of death. My reply was to the poster who claimed that dementia only develops slowly over time. That is not the case. It can come on suddenly (in minutes or hours) due to underlying medical conditions. See the link I posted.

“How did he die? Was he shot, stabbed, poisoned?”

One of the few details the police have not revealed.

We know where he was last seen, around 8:30 pm on Dec. 30th, acting disoriented, in the Nemours Bldg., 1007 N. Market St, Wilmington.

The next day he was observed being dumped from the garage truck into the landfill. They are assuming that he was in one of the dumpsters that was emptied from the east side of Newark. One of the dumpsters they mentioned was at a bank at the College Square Shopping Center, and another at Goodwill, which is nearby. These locations are approximately 12.5 miles away from where he was last seen.

He couldn’t have driven there because they found his car still parked in a garage in Wilmington.

No one has commented on the alledged fued that Wheeler was having with his neighbor.

Police found evidence linking John Parsons Wheeler 3d to devices planted at the New Castle home of a neighbor with whom he had been feuding, said the source, who is close to the investigation. The feud was over the size of the neighbor's house, which was under construction in the city's historic district.

“No one has commented on the alledged fued that Wheeler was having with his neighbor.”

It’s been posted at least three times on this thread and many times on three other threads prior to this one. The FBI was called to investigate the smoke bomb that was tossed into the Marini’s house, which is under construction. They suspect John Wheeler did it.

That’s what I’m thinking too — he could have stopped off for a drink somewhere, been drugged, followed and murdered when he was incapable of protecting himself. With all the secrets he probably had, he should have had some kind of protection.

I read that, but that just seems odd. I find it hard to believe a man of his stature would plant incendiary devices in the home of that neighbor and to what end? Would that really make them decide to stop building it? Really? If true that sounds much more like something planted and makes it start to sound like some sort of cover up (which I actually had been leaning away from).

Am wondering if he had any other signs of mental issue before this happened - i.e. some small earlier strokes etc. Might explain some earlier behaviors. . .

Am wondering too; if perhaps, when briefcase was stolen - assuming it was - if he was not hit on the head by perp; which may have caused some bleeding etc; and so 'from there'.. .he went downhill. Although; none of this yet explains; how he ended up in dumpster. Was he 'placed inside', or was he confused and still 'just looking' for his briefcase. . .

Again; too bad this was not appropriately dealt with by the 'Security' when he clearly demonstrated he needed 'real' assistance.

The device was a “rodent” smoke bomb.

Is this the same Jack Wheeler discussed in this 2004 FR thread?
