John P. Wheeler: Eliminating the red herrings

Pentagon and defense operations must zero in on a problem and bypass the red herrings when seeking solutions; Law enforcement has to do the same thing in a murder investigation like that of John P, Wheeler III. Red herrings in the John Wheeler case include too much of a focus on his alleged erratic behavior and more.

Most recently, Wheeler had been working under contract for the Mitre Corp., based in McLean(Va.) and New Bedford, Mass. The company does computer-related research and development for several government agencies, including the Defense and Homeland Security departments....

Mitre spokeswoman Jennifer Shearman declined to say whether Wheeler was working at the company's McLean headquarters last week. But police said he was scheduled to take an Amtrak train from Washington to Wilmington on Tuesday, Dec. 28...

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/crime-scene/paul-duggan/-john-p-wheeler-iii.html?hpid=newswell

BUT...

Phoebe Dill, a friend and neighbor of Wheeler and his wife, Katherine Klyce, in New Castle, Del., told The Philadelphia Inquirer she last saw Wheeler on Christmas Eve when Dill's husband, Robert, drove him to the train station.

"He was going to New York with his wife's Christmas present," she said. Wheeler and Klyce have a condominium in Manhattan.

Dill said she assumed Wheeler then took a train directly to Washington, near his consulting job at Mitre Corp., a defense contractor in McLean, Va.

After working at Mitre on Dec. 28, Wheeler is believed to have taken a train from Washington to Wilmington.

I didn't realize that journalist James Fallows was a person friend of John P. Wheeler:

It will be interesting if, in the coming months, Fallows writes a long piece on him.

On Friday, Newark Police reported new surveillance video captures another 15 minutes of Wheeler’s final hours, showing him exiting through doors on the 11th Street side of the Nemours building on Dec. 30. Wheeler then begins to walk southeast on 11th Street, past and through the Hotel DuPont valet parking area. He continues southeast and crosses Market Street and is last seen in camera view at 8:42 p.m. walking on the west sidewalk of 11th Street, toward the city’s East Side.

Wheeler is wearing dark colored pants and a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with the hood worn over his head.

His body was found about 13 hours later at the landfill.

Didn’t Mr Wheeler have the cabbies phone # listed in his cell phone? I think i read that somewhere yesterday,

Is this the same cell phone they found in the neighbor's house?

Back to the cabbie - how in the world does he remember Wheeler whom he says he doesn’t know, in two different places, on different days? That is odd to me.

I agree with you absolutely...Wonder if the phone number is right on the outside of the cab and John had just enough time to plug in into his cellphone.

John was not a dumb guy...he could smell trouble...and it just might be that the cab circled a couple of times...alerting John.

Someone said that his last walk was in a tough neighborhood.

My big question...Why was he in Wilmington in the first place?? He was only 20 minutes from home. Did he make it home??

Find the loafer.....

Who’s this guy protecting? Darn!

On Friday of this week, Wilmington City Councilman Kevin Kelley, charged with running the city efficiently and ensuring all victims get justice, alluded that the Wilmington PD might be going overboard in their manpower allocation for the search for John Wheeler’s killer.

“I don’t want any more resources dedicated to this than we do any other homicide,” he instructed on Friday.

Here are some thoughts:

On December 27th, John talked to his attorney and thanked him for sticking it out regarding the house in New Castle Deleware.

What I found out that alters our impression of events.

JOHN INHERITED THAT HOUSE FROM HIS BROTHER!!

Someone said the brother died about 3 years ago. And his mother died also...and I'm getting the impression...about the same time.

I'm betting that the attorney took care of his brother's estate and maybe his mother's, too.

So, when John is talking about that house, it's simply impossible for him to NOT think of his brother...and probably his mother.

His anger might be that he can remember him and his bro and mom sitting on the porch with a view of the river...something which is now impossible because of that new house.

John was in deep pain to mention both of them. He just blurted something out that only he would understand.

Guess what....we've all done that.

Where did you find that out? It's the first I've heard of the house being inherited.

Got it!

"Wheeler, who often commuted between Washington, New York, and Wilmington, owned a waterfront duplex that he inherited from his brother in the historic area known as Old New Castle, located about half a mile away."

http://www.newsweek.com/content/newsweek/2011/01/06/bush-official-john-p-wheeler-murder-case-deepens.html

Interesting insight,S! Wheeler may have become obsessed with the ongoing feud with Marini.

There is "family" missing from his bios...his brother's name, his mother's first name...other siblings....It was driving me crazy.

I'm sure John, his bro and his mom traveled from New Castle to Wilmington many, many times on legal matters.

Besides, my bro died 46 years ago....many things tick off thoughts of my bro and my mom and my dad...

Obsessed?? Not really...Many cases on "view" on the books. Frankly, I think John should have won the lawsuit, hands down.

His attorney said something that we'll never know...

Interesting....So did he return home before his death? Wonder what type of things he kept in his brief case? Credit cards? ID? have they found them?

When my car was stolen, they sprang my briefcase...but because it was all documents, they never even disrupted their order. They just closed the briefcase and left it right in the car.

We need to track a couple of things...where he was JUST BEFORE he was seen on the video...Which door did he come in?? etc..

I think there are two crimes here...The initial mugging and the eventual killing and dumping. It took more than one guy to put him in the dumpster.

My best guess is that John knew he could find these dudes and that he was carrying....and wearing a hoodie...cool disquise for a 66 year old businessman.

Something weird here. Read that they found the smoke bombs in the monster house across the street on December 28th at 11 PM. And...at the same time...they found John's cell phone??? And they were going to talk to John.

But John didn't get robbed until the 29th per the video.

Why were the cops at the new house in the first place? Did someone report smoke?? If so....fire engines would have been called immediately. That didn't happen.

Something is VERY wrong here.

Why are we getting so much bad information.

I'm now thinking that John either knew his perp(s)...and was going to hunt them down or was going hunting for his briefcase.
