If this had been a Republican event in Tucson today there would have been just one death, the gunmen. Several in that kind of a crowd would have pulled their weapons and aeriated him immediately.

Leftists! You started this war and one of your own contiunued it today.

Can you imagine what would have occurred had this been Sarah Palin? Outside of the jokes that would have been made of course. They are quick to blame the Tea Party, who are as docile as 55 yr old white folks that the MSM bill as terrorists. What worries me is that some smart ass Liberal Attorney will have this guy change his story and have him confess to being on the Tea Party payroll. With the current AG I have a greater worry that something will be covered up.

You are quite possibly right. Conservatives in general are more apt to take care of them selves. Tucson has a lot of liberal folks living there. So glad there was at least one person who took action. We were not there. Maybe it happened so fast no one had time to react.

I have two questions: 1) what was the “gunman” shooting? The round that hit Giffords was a through and through. .22?
and 2) WHERE WAS SECURITY? Don’t congress people have security at events? How about a uniformed cop or two? Something doesn’t seem right to me.

My heart is broken that this is taking place in the state that I love. Our family extends our condolences and prayers to the families of those who have lost loved ones and those who were injured. Regardless of their politics, they are human beings.

You're not alone.

The Left has been just as bad making today all about political strategy and propaganda.

It is not just you. Within minutes of the shootings the liberal left media was in full lying rant mode. They didn't have a clue of why this happened so they just made up lies and screamed.
We still do not know why this jerk killed these innocent people. Not one true conservative or Tea Party member has endorsed these murders. It is clear now he had no connection to the right in any way. What we know from those who knew this monster point to him being a far left crazy. I do not believe that him being a far left zealot indicates that he represents how the left feels or acts. That is crazy too. What pisses me off is the lies that the left media is pumping out. The tea party should sue them and demand they prove what they are saying. They need to be held accountable for their bold faced lies. They need to pay dearly for their intentional deception of the public. If there is any true justice in this country those judgments would keep the tea party movement well funded for the next few years.

If this were a Republican event, the same folks who are keening about how this is all Sarah Palin and the Tea Party’s fault would be cheering.

I think it is hyperbole to call this “war” .....maybe its ok to say “culture war” or “political war”

After all Dems did relinquish control of the House....and in January of 2013 if those on the right are able to convince enough people to vote accordingly, Obama will also relinquish control ....and no “war” is called for

There was no security. The sheriff said she does not do security at these events and it’s only provided when a threat is expected.

The gunman used a glock.

The MySpace site photo of a handgun on a U.S. History Book featuring the presidents on the cover appears to be a 19mm, maybe the compact 19.

Just to clarify: this disturbed young man also cited an Ayn Rand book and _Animal Farm_, as well as Plato. This is an admixture of ideologies which is neither left nor right, but the jumblings of a sick mind. ANYONE using political labels at this point is ill-informed and should delay pronouncements.

This applies to Freepers as much as it does to the media.

Note to Congresscritters: get your heads out of your a**es and hire military and police veterans to be your staffers, not well-connected DC insider metrosexuals who've never touched a firearm. Pay for them to get their concealed firearms permits, and keep them around you at public events.

Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone in this. Every thread I read includes this rhetoric, and it’s incredibly upsetting. On one thread, a commenter said Ms. Giffords was “a full blown kook shot by one of her own team members”. It’s sickening.

You're right, but unfortunately, the Leftist full-court press is on, and we can't just stand here, letting them pummel us, while their vicious and blatant lies take root. As distasteful as it may seem, we have to fight back, and it can't wait for later.

TexNewMex: "Just to clarify: this disturbed young man also cited an Ayn Rand book and _Animal Farm_, as well as Plato."

I understand, and I also note the media is combing through his various rantings to find anything anything that sounds remotely "conservative" -- while ignoring the obvious.

The obvious point is that people like Ayn Rand, George Orwell and Plato never advocated violent revolution.

But violence and revolution are the core of what International Socialism (Karl Marx) and National Socialism (Adolf Hitler) are all about.

Of course, I'm not saying the shooter isn't nuts.
But tonight the mainstream media is staying up late trying to figure out how to blame this on Rush Limbaugh, or Glen Beck or Mark Levin, for Christ's sake.

Or Free Republic. Think about that...

BroJoeK: "George Orwell... never advocated violent revolution."

Correction... if I remember correctly, Orwell was a former communist, so Animal Farm and 1984 reflected his disillusionment with his previous beliefs.

Yes, as a former Communist, Orwell had advocated violent revolution.
But those are not the values we see in his later writings.
