One of the fiercest gun-control advocates in Congress, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), pounced on the shooting massacre in Tucson Sunday, promising to introduce legislation as soon as Monday targeting the high-capacity ammunition the gunman used.

Which doesn't even make sense.
I wonder if the bill will include language about "The shoulder thing that goes up"?
Then yes, the M1 is the only one (I can think of).
*** The old battle Mausers and Enfields would toss the clip when you closed the bolt IIRC.***
Correct, stripper clips were tossed after loading the cartridges.
It's *Funny* you should mention the Enfield. I forgot about that Rifle and I'm looking at getting one (DOH!), the Enfield #4 Mk 1. It can be easily 'Sporterized' with a new stock and scope, and the Ballistics for the Brit .303 is pretty darn good (at 200 yds w/ Remington Ammo, it's very very close to the .308) and ammo is plentiful.
I also like the K-31 Schmidt Rubin, and the 7.5x55 'Swiss' ammo is also easy to get.
(I think I'm drawn to it due to its *odd* straight pull bolt action)
The Enfield is a very fast, smooth action although I always thought it was unattractive. The .303 hardly kicks because the rifle is quite heavy. It is a favorite action for the African Professional Hunters to customize into dangerous game rifles like the .450 Ackley Improved. I shot one once. Let me emphasize once. Then, after I had my retinas reattached, my shoulder reconnected and my nose quit bleeding I decided a .416 did not kick so much after all.
I shot a Cape Buffalo, which was facing me, with a .375 H&H and it was not very impressed so the PH shot it in the guts with the .450 as it ran past us. The PH was to my right and I was impressed that he seemed to disappear as the recoil shoved him back pedaling a few feet. Conversely, the buff was unimpressed with the .450 in the guts and barely flinched. My next shot spined him which goes to show you location always trumps power.
Anyway, I am a Mauser man myself but the Enfield and the Mauser are proven battle rifles. The .303 has probably killed more game in Canada and Africa than any other modern cartridge. It has also wounded more due to the use of military ball ammo and the yahoos that shoot it.
As I recall Reagan tried to stay a statesman when his tenure in the Oval Office was over, unlike Carter or Clinton two who can't seem to shut-up about anything.
I disagree. In my view, a callous hag like her who uses the personal tragedy of people as an excuse to violate the rights of millions of law abiding Americans deserves every bit of ridicule and scorn that can be heaped upon her. She richly deserves to be personally derided. I think it is way past time to stop treating freedom hating statists like decent and honorable people; they are not. They are loathsome autocrats who are eager to plumb any depths to get their way.
President Clinton signed that bill, but Reagan claimed support for it, IIRC.
The 1896 "Broomhandle" Mauser pistol, a classic and distinctive firearm, uses a 10 round clip to feed its fixed box magazine. (In the interest of historical accuracy)...

Thanks,
My grandfather was born in Germany in 1906 so the Broomhandle pre-dates even the “evil gleam in my father’s eye” by 6 decades.
I guess it was one of the first “Assault Pistols” developed 114 years ago just to piss off today’s liberal.
