Democrats move to limit guns, threatening language in shooting's wake
Washington Examiner ^ | 01/11/11 6: | Susan Ferrechio

Reacting to the assassination attempt on one of their own, two House members on Monday said they will introduce legislation that would ban certain ammunition clips and make it illegal to threaten a federal official, both of which they say contributed to the mass casualties in a shooting rampage in Tuscson over the weekend.

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., plans to introduce a bill that would ban high-capacity ammunition clips like the one used by Jared Loughner, the gunman accused of killing 6 and injuring 14, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., as they gathered at a “Congress on Your Corner” event.

And Rep. Robert Brady, D-Pa., will introduce legislation that would make it illegal to uses threatening words or symbols or incite violence against a lawmaker or federal official.

Among the symbols Brady seeks to ban was one posted on the Internet by former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin that showed Democratic congressional districts, including Giffords’, with the crosshairs of a rifle scope superimposed over them.

“I want to protect our congresspeople in a way that they can’t put a crosshair on us, they can’t put a bullseye on us, no matter who does it,” Brady said Monday on Fox News.

McCarthy’s bill would target the 30-round clip Loughner used in a Glock 19 handgun. The high-capacity clips were once banned by the federal Assault Weapon Ban, which expired in 2004 and was never renewed by Congress because of intense partisan politics and lawmakers’ reluctance to take up gun restrictions when facing reelection.

But McCarthy aides say that while she wants to ban the larger clips, McCarthy is not insisting that gun clips be limited to the 10-bullet limit imposed by the Assault Weapon Ban.

“We are not married to the previous limit,” her spokesman, Shams Tarek, told The Washington Examiner. “We are working on language that is reasonable and makes sense and has a possibility of passing.”

While gun control issues are virtually impossible to push through Congress, McCarthy, whose husband was killed in a 1993 mass shooting on the Long Island Railroad, had some success when, in 2007, she passed a measure beefing up criminal background checks for some gun buyers.

That bill passed just after the mass shooting at Virginia Tech that left 32 people dead. Gun control advocates are hoping momentum from the Tucson shooting will help pass her new proposal.

“It’s going to be critical to take these things up very quickly,” said Ladd Everitt, spokesman for Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. “It’s very possible Republicans would like to run out the clock on this, but this is not going to leave the news and it is not going to leave the hearts and minds of America. We are hoping that will generate action.”

Gun-rights groups said they believe McCarthy’s bill is unlikely to pass in a House controlled by Republicans.

“These reactions are as predictable as vultures circling carrion,” Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, said of McCarthy’s bill.

We’re going to find out just how much rhetoric was slung around in the last election.

Did they mean it when they talked conservativism? Yes or no?

Go to your browser and type in “Jared Loehner”. Due to the events and interest generated in this man, his former writings should be readily available on the World Wide Web, along with various pieces of information dug up by the famous bloggers everywhere on it. We should know his shoe size and how many fillings he has in his teeth by now. Please tell me what you discover when you search. Propagandists and news organizations seem to be the only ones who are privy to any rock solid information.

I found very little when I google searched on Jared Loehner.

However, I found lots of information on Jared Loughner, including his writings (if you can call them that) as well as his videos.

DID you use the correct spelling of Jared Lee Loughner's name when you did your search, or did you misspell his name? Because with the correct spelling, I found page after page after page on or about or by him.

You are absolutely correct. These people (The Democrats & Obama) are just a carry-on of the facists, the nazi maniacs, and the communist “collective” regimes that controlled, jailed, tortured, murdered millions of innocents for control, fun and political dogma. I am, however, convinced that these haters will fail as did the Nazi’s, the Facists and the Communists and socialists added. Actually, even though there are folks that do not agree, the majority of the American people IMHO have had their fill of failed POTUS Obama and the Democrat Party. With the help of millions of loyal Americans, Obama and his Democrat Party will go down to massive political defeat in November, 2012. The burden is on “our” (the American people) good, loyal folks to rid our beloved nation of these collective progressives and would be dictators in the upcoming election cycle. The polls taken after this unfortunate American tragedy cause by a madman do not favor the American haters and destroyers at all!!! The American voter has Obama’s number and the failed dogma of the Democrat party.

The problem was that the shooter was clearly mentally ill and despite making overt threats over a period of years nothing was done by law enforcement even though they clearly knew of his condition. In former days he would have been institutionalized, but since liberal policies have emptied these mental hospitals and made such involuntary commitments difficult these seriously mentally ill people are roaming the streets.

It would seem that the MSM & Rat party are determined to make this tragedy their Reichstag moment & use it to butt rape the Constitution keep your eyes & ears open & your powder dry people cause it will get worse before it gets better.

The Democrats are in general acting like frustrated 2year olds who lash out when they don’t get what they want get a hold of your Congress idiot & remind them that you do in fact understand what they are trying to do to the Constitution.

Have no doubts that there are a bunch of RINO’s that will be happy to help them.

I hope she does exactly that. The bill will be worthless. It's magazines, NOT clips. Geeze. Don't speak/write unless you know the subject.

They are trying to legislate something they know nothing about. From this link (emphasis mine):

One of the fiercest gun control advocates in Congress, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), pounced on the shooting massacre in Tucson, Ariz., Sunday, promising to introduce legislation as soon as Monday targeting the high-capacity ammunition clip the gunman used.
Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) said he’s preparing to introduce a similar bill in the Senate.

“The only reason to have 33 bullets loaded in a handgun is to kill a lot of people very quickly,” Lautenberg said in a statement. “These high-capacity clips simply should not be on the market.“

McCarthy’s spokesman confirmed that the legislation will target the high-capacity ammunition clips the Arizona gunman allegedly used in the shooting, but neither he nor the congresswoman offered any further details.
Idiots!

Now, if you'll pardon me, I've got to go write legislation on rocket science.

Looks nice! I’d rather have the straight GI looking one with fiberglass stock and blued barrel. However, I’d get it glass bedded and accurized.

WalMart sells name brand rifles and shotguns. They have a gun catalog and if the gun is in it they can get it. As for ammo they have Remington,Winchester and other name brands too. I go to gun shows and their prices are a lot higher than regular gun shops including ammo. Their ammo prices are two to three dollars higher than Wally’s.

Thanks for the correction in spelling. It did yield more results but nothing of a paper trail of his life, only what has already been released by way of major news outlets.

Jared’s My Space was taken down but it exists in some files as screenshots.

The spelling may yeild more of what I’m looking for.

All the things they’re talking about passing is just hip shooting. It’s all hype. They haven’t listed one specific thing, either word or graph that to them is inflammatory. If they cite hate speech then Sgt. Schultz, Chris Matthews, Keith Olberman and people like them will be out of a job.

Why not employ common sense and not let liberal nutjobs who threaten their own congresspeople own guns? Let’s just get right to the heart of the matter. That’s what happened here.

He shot his own congressperson because she wasn’t far enough to the left for him. Didn’t vote for Pelosi as minority leader, that was the last straw. Otherwise she is a very liberal member of congress. Not good enough for this wacko.

Just disarm all the liberals and leftists. the only things left they can play with are plastic sporks. They hate guns anyway, let’s make sure none of them can have them. Look what they do to each other when they do have guns.

Both McCarthy and Brady are traitors.

Didn’t the House just pass a rule that all proposed legislation must have a basis in the Constitution? What these two fascist clowns are proposing sure as hell isn’t Constitutional.

The new Republican house needs to censure and expel them from the House. Then follow that with treason trials.

He may not have much of a paper trail to locate : He was only 22, he dropped out of high school IIRC, he appears to have been unemployed (maybe never employed) , he was turned down by the military when he tried to enlist, and he was told he could not return to community college classes until he had a written OK from a doctor. He took a taxi to the shooting , so he may not have had a driver's license and/or a vehicle. He *was* registered to vote in 2006 (as an independent) but after that he became an inactive voter. So there may be very little job or credit data on him, though he did have numerous run ins with the law (AND with Sheriff Loudmouth in particular.)

He did have a youtube account, but it and his facebook account may both be offline, and be advised that soon after JLL was identified, fake facebook and IIRC at least one youtube account was rushed up by &*%^$#s who thought they were being cute. So if you find stuff by him, it may be fake, like the now debunked voter registration form that had Loughner as a registered Republican (and which misspelled Tucson!)

If they don’t have the stones to face armed constituents, its time for them to retire.

The only thing stopping these marxist/communist bastards like McCarthy is an armed populace and the implied threat they represent.

However, political violence in the name of furthering an agenda is exclusively a leftist/progressive/marxist/communist phenomenon. The have had to listen to them shouting the words of marx while killing people, and now we have them shouting words from the Koran too.

When I first heard that the House was going to stand down this week - meaning there would be no vote on obamacare repeal - I was not happy. However, after a day or so of reading the nonsense being promoted by our ‘representatives’ in the wake of the Tucson shootings, I’m thinking a cooling off period was probably a brilliant idea.

These people are nuckin’ futz.
