Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus led after the first ballot in the race for chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Needing 85 votes among the 168 members to win, Priebus took 45 votes in the first round. Trailing Priebus after one round is Chairman Michael Steele with 44 votes, former RNC official Maria Cino with 32 votes, Michigan Committeeman Saul Anuzis with 24 votes, and former Missouri GOP Chairwoman Ann Wagner with 23 votes.
Several more ballots are expected before someone reaches the 85-vote threshold. Steele won the 2009 race after six rounds, defeating a five-candidate field that included Anuzis and then-Chairman Mike Duncan.
All eyes are now on Steele to see if his support begins to dwindle. In 2009, Duncan dropped out after three rounds after watching his vote total dwindle from 52 to 44. He had led after the first round and was tied with Steele after the second round.
The sense here is that if Steele did not finish in first place after the first ballot, he would have a difficult chance of winning. Still, much of the talk among members before this vote centered on whether Steele would leave the race when it became apparent he could not win...

Wannabe Saul Anuzis is a hyphenate----a Lithuanian American born here----who is currently an advisor to the Republic of Lithuania.
We don’t want a hyphenate using the Party to advance the interests of a foreign govt. NO hyphenates, NO way. We want an all-American conservative RNC chair, who salutes the US flag, and bows only to the Constitution of the United States.
Anuzis' biggest claim to fame-----of which he has boasted proudly and endlessly in public forums----that as Michigan GOP chair, he personally forced state and local party organizations to stage "Juneteenth" celebrations (marking the end of slavery). We don't need at the helm of the party someone like Anuzis who diminishes all-American holidays like Independence Day.

Anuzis fits right in with race-hustling, reparation pimps-----b/c he personally forced state and local Repub party organizations to stage "Juneteenth" celebrations. Wadda ya wanna bet Anuzis has a deal with the race-baiters to infiltrate the RNC, and use the org as a money laundry to get million$$ to them?
Saul Anuzis is unfit to be Chairman of the RNC. He is a figgin neocon----and the POS is keeping it damned quiet. Another neo-con with ulterior motives looking out for himself. Anuzis' buddies are the neocon Me-Firsters----Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, Billy Kristol----- and the rest of the 'what's in it for me' neo crowd, who have no visible sources of income.
The pukeneos detest conservatives. They squat in the Repub Party to takeover the agenda, and to kick consevatives to the curb. If Anuzis gets in, this is what we can expect (gag).

N/C'S SECRET AGENDA? In the neocon-driven conservative relationship, liberalism will always have the upper hand and will always dictate the future. Having abandoned principles, neoconservatives can offer no principled opposition to the creation of new welfare programs in the future. Of course, they would see this as a problem only if they opposed welfare programs, which they do not.
In addition to the Roosevelts----TR and FDR----neocons add Bismarck to their list of statesman-like heroes. According to arch-neocon William Kristol, the “idea of a welfare state is in itself perfectly consistent with a conservative political philosophy—as Bismarck knew, a hundred years ago.”
Neocons’ squat in the Republican Party to restore not a Jeffersonian model of government, but rather the Prussian welfare state. This, according to the neocons, this is what it means to be “in the ‘American grain.’” This is their contribution to what they consider is Republicanism, “the stupid party” as they call it.........and to the American way of life.
I'd still like the big money moderates to toss in a few hundred million to the RNC. It can be useful.

A bit more complicated than that.
Many of Steele's voters are conservative, as are some of Cino's backers (Ken Blackwell, for one, though he isn't a RNC member).
And most other candidates have a share of objectionable supporters.
None of them are probably strong conservatives. Anuzis only considers himself half American and lobbies for a foreign government. Wonderful.
It doesn’t matter who wins the party will still be backing people like Dede Scozzafava, Charlie Crist et al.

I’m embarrassed to admit I haven’t been following this (don’t support the RNC) and have never heard of Priebus. After the second ballot, it’s looking likely that he can win this thing.
A quick search turns up the following: while going to law school he spent a couple years as an intern for the NAACP legal defense fund in Los Angeles. While working as an attorney at a law firm in 2009 he spent his time seeking federal stimulus funds as part of the firm’s “Stimulus Legislation Team”. Has he always been a conservative, or did he recently have a conversion?
Not trying to start any arguments, because, as I said, I know nothing about him.

Rience Prebus is from Wisconsin. You all remember what WE did here in Packerland? We dumped Russ “I love the teacher’s union and McCain” Feingold, we got David Obey to retire and replaced both of these horrid Dems with GOP fellows.
He is a good solid conservative and I hope if he wins we can get back to having pride in our RNC leadership. NO more reaching across the darned isle. PS: I have not donated money to the RNC for years. I go direct to the candidate of my choice. I still get Christmas cards from John Thune. haa. Still is very important to have the right person in charge at the RNC. I rest my case.

Priebus has done a good job in Wisconsin, which was the highlight of conservative resurgence in 2010.
