WASHINGTON --Reince Priebus was elected chairman of the Republican National Committee on Friday after Michael Steeledropped his bid to stay atop the party for another two years.

Priebus clinched the victory after seven rounds, securing 97 votes, more than the 85 required to win. Steele dropped out of the race after four rounds.

"At this time, I will step aside for others to lead," Steele told the168 RNC committee members at the Gaylord Resort in National Harbor, Md. "But in so doing, I hope y'all appreciate the legacy we leave. Despite the noise -- because lord know we had a lot of noise -- despite the difficulties, we won."

Do you have any evidence about the new RNC chair to back that up or do you just like going around making false accusations about people?

Thanks Magnus. I sometimes weary of the 'I'm not happy with anything' crowd here. It was Steele's time to go, that's for sure. I laugh, because those who are quick to criticize his replacement are some of the very same ones who were posting that the RNC is dead to them just a few months ago. If they were honest, what matter does it make who leads a group they will have nothing to do with?

The rhetoric of elections, awards and other such things always annoys me. Steele wasn’t “ousted.” HIS TERM WAS UP. He ran for re-election, and there were four other candidates. One of those five would win, the other four wouldn’t. He saw the writing on the wall and dropped out. But it wasn’t like someone came after him while he was still chairman and yanked him out. His term was up and he had to go through the process like anyone else.

Priebus is a University of Miami law school grad.

It’s all about The U!

From some earlier posts today, he appeared to be the least offensive of all the candidates.

Close to your neck of the woods in WI. Did a good job as their state chairman. He had my endorsement (if only because he was the best of a lackluster-to-execrable bunch). I see the Anuses crew aren’t wasting any time badmouthing him in this thread. Talk about a hugh and series turd.

Not sure how he’ll do at the national level but here in WI in the last election we had the biggest D to R sweep in the whole country. The interesting thing is that he was on Mark Belling’s show the day of the election and pretty much called it while the polls were still open nationwide. He recruited Ron Johnson to take out Feingold and Sean Duffy to take Obey’s old House seat. Hopefully he doesn’t get corrupted by the national GOP.

Priebus was a volunteer and a law clerk for the NAACP.

Later, as an attorney, he participated in cases in Milwaukee where he confiscated land from private citizens via eminent domain. He also worked privately on behalf of Wisconsin companies angling for huge stimulus payouts... at the same time the anti-stimulus RNC employed him as general counsel.

He did some good work in WI, but the TEA Party really carried the water. This is not the best guy for RNC chair, and it just reinforces the belief that the GOP is making backroom deals... again.

Is it too soon to get my hopes up?

I know nothing about the guy. But with all public figures I take them with a grain or two of salt until they show their wares.

Preibus is in the classic Congressional Wing of the Reublican party ~ in the long run they don't know how to be winners ~ just hacks.

This is like throwing away 2012 to 4 more years of Democrat tyranny.

Another election with Michael Steele would be another record breaker.

See, I've been saying some of you people just don't know how to be winners. First you don't knowhow to win. When you've won you deny it. And to get ready for the next election you're going to send your money to somebody who's not much better prepared to run than yourself.

Frankly, I don't think you understand why we have political parties, and feel uncomfortable around them.

Raising funds is one thing. Spending is another. The difference created a debt, but we had an historic win.

Would you give away control of most of the legislatures in a redistricting year just to avoid $20 mil in debt?

Steele came up with the jack. The party won. The anti-party who shouldn't be playing this game want to give it all away.

Again, lot of you folks don't know how to be winners.
