Union sues over S.C. gov's remarks about Boeing plant

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is facing her first big lawsuit after saying the state would try to keep unions out of the Boeing Inc. plant in North Charleston.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Charleston by the International Association of Machinists and AFL-CIO asked for a court order telling Haley and her director of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation to butt out and remain neutral in matters concerning union activities.

"There's no secret I don't like the unions," Haley said when asked about the litigation. "We are a right-to-work state. I will do everything I can to defend the fact we are a right-to-work state. We are pro-business by nature. I want us to continue to be pro-business. If they don't like what I said, I'm sorry, that's how I feel."

>>The tactics of these groups are by any means necessary. Destroy private property, break legs, and even twist the law with the help of sympothetic judges and lawyers.

I remember when Senator Packwood fought to close a federal loophole that allowed unions to legally commit arson, rape and murder as part of “labor negotiations”. The unions fought tooth and nail to keep that ability, and after they lost they railroaded Packwood out of D.C. I learned everything I need to know about unions from that incident.

The unions want “a court order telling Haley and her director of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation to butt out and remain neutral in matters concerning union activities.” How does that work? Why don’t they just go for a court order declaring their favorite lackey Governor of SC?

Go to hell you union pimp!!

What other civil rights don't you respect? I know you don't respect those who honor and sustain the law and Constitution , but the Governor has sworn to do so.

NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS ACT

29 U.S.C. §§ 151-169

[Title 29, Chapter 7, Subchapter II, United States Code]

There are plenty of great sites for Liberal, Socialist Union Slavemasters who think they have the right to extort whatever they want from corporations and taxpayers. Just a few recommendations.

What surprises me is that the other guy was able to reply so quickly. I’d be asking “What did you say? Can you put that in English?”

Created in 1935, “The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency vested with the power to safeguard employees’ rights to organize and to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative. The agency also acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices committed by private sector employers and unions.” (From their website)

While the new House members are concentrating on ‘saving’ money, they could defund this albatross.

The unions in Seattle have made it impossible for Boeing to compete with government subsidized Airbus, so they moved to SC. If the unions get their way in SC look for Boeing to leave the US.

You said: they could defund this albatross.

I would keep funding, if they actually went after the unfair practices of unions. I remember the SEIU going after an employer a while back in a very bad way. Far from preventing or stopping the SEIU abuses, the NLRB was itself an instrument of the SEIU's abuse.

The Governor missed a golden opportunity to keep her mouth shut.

It's been 28 years since Reagan faced down the ATC union. It's about time another Republican took up the fight.

(( ping ))

(The quote is for real.)

State Sen. Robert Ford asked her (Governor Haley) if she had orders to crack down on labor unions. The Democrat represents the Charleston district where the Boeing plant is being built:

“But you don’t have no mandate from nobody that we’re not going to let no labor union exist at Boeing?” Ford asked.

Robert Ford is a Black Democrat. As such he’s entitled to use “Ebonics.”

What other civil rights don't you respect? I know you don't respect those who honor and sustain the law and Constitution , but the Governor has sworn to do so.

In a Right to Work state, the law sustains the right of an individual to be employed whether or not he chooses to join a union, or to pay an agency fee to a union.

In other words, a union cannot make union membership, or a payment of a fee a condition of employment.

Unions cannot force a company to fire a worker because he refuses to join the union, or to pay a fee for representation in collective bargaining.

It does not preclude workers from forming a union, or belonging to an existing one.

I refer you to the Taft-Hartley Act.

If this is the case in South Carolina, please explain how Gov. Haley is violating her Oath of Office to support the US Constitution and the laws of her state.

"But you don't have no mandate from nobody that we're not going to let no labor union exist at Boeing?" (Congressman) Ford asked.

That sentence should be grounds for impeachment!

So that is what your problem is, you are a Union stooge. Now I understand your rudeness as well as non-sensible postings.

The “state” of the State of Washington is one of overtaxation, over-regulation and corruption and rottenness to the core, thanks largely to King County, and the union left and its supporters are to blame.

Good for Boeing for getting the hell out of hell and good for Governor Haley for standing up to the unions like a man.

Especially since the Republican Party seems in damned short supply of the male variety these days....

Just a little "inside baseball" on another FR econ thread. I see this argument all the time, by people who claim to be conservative. They actually are "conservatives" (not minding the DNC trolls, they are just of the Pat Buchanan variety).

I don’t know whom or what you are talking about.

My hunch is that English is not your first language.

The point here is that I am pro-open shop, pro-freedom, pro-industry and anti-union—and you are not.

You and Pat Buchanan may have some opinions in common. I don’t think that speaks very well of either of you.
