KIEV, Ukraine — The crocodile in "Peter Pan" happily went "tick-tock" after swallowing an alarm clock but a crocodile in Ukraine has been a little less fortunate.

Gena, a 14-year-old crocodile at an aquarium in the eastern city of Dnipropetrovsk, has been refusing food and acting listless after eating a cell phone dropped by a woman as she tried to photograph him.

Aquarium workers initially didn't believe Rimma Golovko, a new mother in her 20s, when she complained that the crocodile had swallowed her phone.

He hasn’t eaten or pooped in a month and is showing signs of pain and all they’re doing is waiting? They’re waiting until next week to maybe take an xray? It’s obviously blocked so while they’re waiting, he’s going to die.

-——and is showing signs of pain-—

The pain indicators are actually crocodile tears

This looks like this case will be a tragic object lesson as to why it is a bad idea for the government to be involved in healthcare.

Can she remotely reprogram her ring tone?

And, Golovko is resigned to losing her phone, but still wants its SIM card back since that has her precious photos and contacts. I wonder what Ukrainian crocodile surgeons pull down these days.

Crocs are cold blooded and can go for weeks, maybe months, without eating.

Certain aspect of this story are very hard to believe. Not that the croc swallowed the cell phone, I believe that. But the phone is still ringing and they can hear it from inside the croc’s body? Mr Ditter dropped his cell phone in the bath tub and it never rang again and when my cell phone is deep in my coat pocket I have trouble hearing it ring. So her phone still rang and they could hear it????????

True, but I’m not aware of any case when a hungry, healthy crocodile refused available food.

When a crocodile does “fast”, it’s because it has not caught anything for dinner in a few weeks or it has ingested something that has made it ill.

And the croc said: "Can I borrow your cell phone?"

Almost as dumb as deer crossing signs. DEER CAN'T READ!!!

Am wondering the same. They don’t need an x-ray; just have someone call, and open him up. X-ray or not; at best, this appears a senseless ‘waiting’ MO. . At worst, animal cruelty.

I would guess that the vets examined the crocodile, and through the aid of a stethoscope, were able to hear the ringing phone.

Either that, or she has a very loud and obnoxious ringtone!

Never smile at a crocodile
No, you can’t get friendly with a crocodile
Don’t be taken in by his welcome grin
He’s imagining how well you’d fit within his skin
Never smile at a crocodile
Never dip your hat and stop to talk awhile
Never run, walk away, say good-night, not good-day
Clear the aisle but never smile at Mister Crocodile
You may very well be well bred
Lots ot etiquette in your head
But there’s always some special case, time or place
To forget etiquette
For instance:
Never smile at a crocodile
No, you can’t get friendly with a crocodile
Don’t be taken in by his welcome grin
He’s imagining how well you’d fit within his skin
Never smile at a crocodile
Never dip your hat and stop to talk awhile
Never run, walk away, say good-night, not good-day
Clear the aisle but never smile at Mister Crocodile

How was the woman able to convince the aquarium officials to take the croc out and examine him on her say so? That seems like it would be quite a job, and how was she able to identify which croc swallowed her phone? Don't they all look pretty much alike? How long before the cell phone battery needed charging? So many questions..........

Hopefully the croc will pass the phone before the lithium battery corrodes and leaks corrosive poisons in to the croc’s stomach

Also if the contacts on the battery short together do to the acids in the stomach of the croc the battery could overheat and explode.

Either of these occurrences would likely be fatal for the croc.

my 3 year old (2 at the time) “helped” me by bringing my ringing cell phone to me in the bath once, and promptly dropped it in...it stopped ringing immediately, and never rang again. In fact, it never turned on again. They do make cell phones that can survive water and being dropped and whatnot. They are ugly and my hubby threatens me with them every time I do something to mine (like setting it in the little niche where the windshield wipers live while putting the wipers back after a snowy night and forgetting it and driving off). Maybe she had an “indestructible phone”.
