Hawaii - NIMBY Alert !
Awakened once again by the roaring of Air Force C-17 maneuvers just down the hill at Kona International Airport, I am prompted to write. I'm want to launch a community discussion on the increased military use of our airport and the appalling sound pollution caused by aircraft maneuvers.
It has been determined, by the Air Force and state that Kona International Airport is ideal for such purposes and increased military use is planned. As I see it Kona is at a critical crossroads in determining the future of our quality of life and livelihood.

The Army is proposing adding helicopter training on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Should the plan be approved?
One good published response so far :

Mahalo !
I, for one, LOVE airplane noise!
Perhaps this chap should move to a country where the government determines his quality of life. (I know, it is already starting here)
Me too!
Ever Been on an Aircraft Carrier? Airport “noise” is NOTHING!
They should send in some search and rescue choppers to look for Bammy’s birth certificate.
I was stationed near a U.S. Air Force Base in Germany in the '70s. There was a story going around that the some of the locals had approached the base commander complaining about the noise from the airplanes flying overhead.
The story went that he told them that there would be aircraft overhead, no matter what... the only difference would be whether they had white stars or red stars painted on them.
I don't know how the rest of the conversation went, but the AFB is still there.
Oh Please. I used to live and fish in Kona. The flight path is over the ocean to the north and south. The Airport is out on a Peninsula and the planes come in and out from the Ocean.
My office is right next door to Centennial, the 2nd busiest GA airport. We get all kinds of aircraft flying outta here, not to mention our own airplanes we fly.
So, airplane noise has to be minimal anyway. Dummies. Years before they closed the base I lived at Myrtle Beach AFB with the A-10s. Same thing: The runway was aligned with the ocean. Yet, people complained about noise they barely could hear. The tourists loved the sights of the A-10’s flying overhead.
Every one in a while I used to go up to the flight deck to make sure somebody hadn’t painted “Please drop chains here from the hours of 0100-0800” directly over my room.
and every day 0bambi is in office brings that day nearer.
You can not even hear the planes in Kona. But there are a lot of Libkooks there.
“directly over my room” na just why should YOUR room be special, we dropped ‘em over EVERYBODY’S room.
This libnut lives in the new rent subsidized housing unit above the airport. That should give you a clue.
please FREEP to Poll on the website folks
It’s important to us out here .
We are heavily out numbered and on the offensive
Hey are you in Kona?
Wheres the poll I can’t find it.
