WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government is telling half of the U.S. population to drastically cut their daily salt intake.

That's the advice to consumers - and the food industry - as the government issues new dietary guidelines, which are the recommendations behind the popular food pyramid.

For the first time, the Agriculture and Health and Human Services departments, which issue the guidelines every five years, are telling people who are 51 and older, all African-Americans and anyone suffering from hypertension, diabetes or chronic kidney disease to reduce daily sodium intake to little more than half a teaspoon.

Leave us alone , government.

Abolish the EPA, FCC,FDA for starters.

Freedom = capitalism = prosperity.

Socialism = government control = starvation = oppression = slavery.

I'll eat the salt I think I need. Government can pound sand.

My vet recommended more after they did blood tests in the hospital after my accident. She wasn't too worried about if my remaining kidney could handle it. She was worried that my sodium level was so low.

Well, Now that health care is provided for “free”, courtesy of Uncle Sam, you better DO what he TELLS you to do, or ELSE.

Don’t agree with that? Then ABOLISH, REPEAL, DEFUND, and STOP the MONSTROSITY of OBAMACARE!!!!

Any MD that attends me needs large animal handling training. ;)

I say that in jest, but the MDs that took care of me after my accident did a great job, and I respect them. Just not so much that I worship them.

Besides, I have more respect for vets, they work with multiple species.

why not? it’s cheaper. I’ve been threatening to get my prescriptions from my vet for years. They give my dog amoxacillin and that’s what I need for a sinus infection!

Isn’t that the job of the medical profession instead of government. Will salt now become available only by prescription?
