USDA deregulates GE alfalfa; opens door to new era of widespread genetic pollution of crops

Under these programs, the USDA uses chemical poisons to murder literally millions of birds each year, including an occasional endangered species animal by accident. This is all part of the USDA's insane program of death to protect the financial interests of conventional agriculture giants.

Luther Burbank cross pollinated different plants to produce strains which were more resistant to pests and diseases.

He did not splice*** bacterial*** DNA and then implant it into a plant’s genetic material for that same purpose.

“In the early 1950s the figure for cancer probability was one in five, which became one in four in the early 1960s, and stands now at close to one in two.”

I have been in health care for over 30 years and this statement interests me. Please provide references for all 3 contentions. I would like to do a little research. TX!

Heh, so the person 40 pds overwieght then discovers:

“Hey, it’s diabetes that is making me fat!”

Good luck with that one.

Great! I’m not that conversant with the health aspect, only longevity, so I appreciate anything you can add.

Natural vs Unnatural.

Burbank didn’t have the technology to splice in genes from bacteria.

I have the greatest respect for farmers but I, too, believe there is a problem that needs to be addressed. We may be living longer but our nation is not healthy...

What are some of CDC’s key findings related to adult health-related quality of life?

Americans said they feel unhealthy (physically or mentally) about 6 days per month.

Americans said they feel “healthy and full of energy” about 19 days per month.

Nearly one-third of Americans say they suffer from some mental or emotional problem every month—including 10 percent who said their mental health was not good for 14 or more days a month.

Younger American adults, aged 18–24 years, suffered the most mental health distress.

These facts are hard to ignore. The answers to improving our health lie in the quality of our food supply.

We return again to the old adage, “You are what you eat”.

Here are some examples of ‘The average American farmer is so stupid they don’t know enough not to do business with Monsanto” attitude you’ve posted:

“if a Farmer or Seed cleaner or producer is not licensed by Monsanto, they can be sued for producing their product with no license.”

“Odd, so now one chimes in whilst ignoring Monsanto using lawsuits to corner the seed market and sue farmers for their own contamination?”

“if Monsanto’s product was so universally loved, then why are they suing farmers who A)do not use their products B) did not ask for their crop to be contaminated with their pollen?”

I’ll bet you don’t even KNOW a farmer, a real farmer who earns his living by producing food that people want.

If you did you wouldn’t post such nonsense

Link to your assertion that “eating inorganic” is resulting in longer lives.

And we’re not talking about mules vs tractors. We’re talking about BT.

BT wasn’t around in 1932. Changes in life expectancy from 1932 to 1962 were not due to bt plants, because bt plants didn’t exist.

Most here are not arguing against all technology, only specific, terrible technology, like BT, and GMO Alfalfa.

Well, at least you realize that we are living longer. Not everyone will even admit to that.

As to the other information, while I disagree with you, my disagreement is only my assessment, and I probably would not have scientific facts to back up my claims.

How about having a back and forth conversation with RetiredNavy, post 182? I would be most interested in seeing what you both bring to the table. (seems to be a fitting analogy for a discussion about food!)

Thanks

Only God can do that,

Do what, give man the knowledge to enhance their food production?

“Link to your assertion that “eating inorganic” is resulting in longer lives.”

I was just ‘poking the dog’ with that statement. Seems it would be near impossible to attribute our longer lives to any one thing.

My own, honest, guess would be medical advances.

“it does become very tiresome when people ignore the facts.’

I agree and I hope you will read ALL of the facts regarding this case as well. I have read extensively about both sides of the Wakefield issue. You are speaking without fully investigating. Do you even KNOW the stated conclusion of Wakefeild’s paper? He said, ‘IT WARRANTS FURTHER INVESTIGATION’. What in the Lord’s name would be wrong with that, pray tell?

From the paper...
“We have identified a chronic enterocolitis in children that may be related to neuropsychiatric dysfunction. In most cases, onset of symptoms was after measles, mumps, and rubella immunisation. Further investigations are needed to examine this syndrome and its possible relation to this vaccine.”

If everyone is so certain there is no link, I would think they would be thrilled to have it investigated further and the subject finally put to rest.

http://www.daijiworld.com/news/news_disp.asp?n_id=94157&n_tit=Bangalore%3A+Bt+Brinjal+Has+Potential+to+Adversely+Affect+Lever%2C+Reproduction%3F+

Bangalore, Jan 27: In a shocking revelation, it is reported that Bt Brinjal, when used as food, has the potential to adversely affect the functioning of liver and ovaries, besides destroying white blood cells, which manage the immune system of the body.

This is reportedly contained in the scientific report prepared by Mahyco, which plans to market seeds of Bt Brinjal in Indian market. However, these adverse observations were purposefully kept under wraps while submitting a study report required to seek commercial use of Bt Brinjal, submitted to the genetic engineering appraisal committee by Mahyco, it is alleged.

Before exposing human beings to any new seeds, insecticides or species, they are used on guinea pigs to ensure that they are safe for use on humans. During the scientific tests conducted about Bt Brinjal on guinea pigs, Mahyco had found that this genetically modified vegetable was not fit for use by humans, claims scientist from New Zealand, Dr Lou Gallagher.

“Powdered Bt Brinjal was used on guinea pigs for only 90 days. Half of the ovaries of the guinea pigs which consumed this vegetable were damaged and their regeneration capacity was curtailed, as per the report. The quantum of white blood cells in the body also came down by around 9 to 12 percent. These can have disastrous affect on the bodies. As the quantum of aspartate aminotransferase in the body goes up in the body by 54 to 60 percent, the consumption of Bt Brinjal can harm our livers,” the scientist has observed.

Fewer massive wars like WWII helped raise life expectancy. And curing a bunch of diseases.

A year or so ago I looked at life expectancy. It went up a lot from about 1930 to 1965, then has gone up a little bit.

Those are is what is known as “facts” not “hyperbole” which one has been engaging in rather than even bother to answer, nor rebutt what A)I’ve claimed, because we both know you cannot B) those actually happened.

When all else fails, bang the table and claim “you say so and so is dumb” when in fact, that never happened. Which is odd for one who claims to dislike “Leftists” you certainly attempt to use their tactics.

There are quite a few horror stories out there. Unfortunately, we are well on our way to understanding the true consequences of GMO. According to Louise Gray “In the world as a whole we have eaten two trillion meals containing GM over the last 12 years.” Without truly understanding the consequences.......

—Most offspring of rats fed Round up Ready soy died with in 3 weeks

—immune system dysfunction

—changes in testicle formation (that should get someones attention) and reproduction issues

Not to mention, it may not be the panacea it’s cracked up to be...

Thousands of Indian GMO Farmers Commiting Suicide...

Here is an excellent article on the dangers involved...

The actuarial tables show that life expectancy went up 5 years in the period 1940-1950.

It also increast by 5 years during the period 1910-1920.

Both of those periods included the bloodiest wars in history.

Facts, not opinion.

I forgot to add that most 10 year periods showed an increase of one to three years with most showing less than 3.

So wars had nothing at all to do with it other than during most wars we make greater strides in medicine.

So did the death rate rise by some appropriate big number?

Or did cancer?

Heart trouble?

Lets see some numbers, not scare articles.
