which is precisely why I was shocked to hear him say what he did this morning... The ONLY reason he beat Allen Boyd was because WE the people for FL-District 2 believed that HE would be the ONE to toe the line on out of control spending.. and how to see him back pedal after being in Washington for 2 MONTHS ! I expected him to last at least 2 years... I don’t think we lost him yet.. but he does need to hear from us.
I would like to hear what he said IN CONTEXT.
So far he has delivered on everything we expected of him. Please provide what he said in FULL CONTEXT!
“knee-jerk attacks our of contxt” are you kidding me... Preston Scott gave him several chances to be very specific about his response... he practically gave him the words to say but he REFUSED to take a hard stance AGAINST raising the debt ceiling !! That FLOORED me because I thought I knew him better than that... he is doing a good job of TRYING to avoid raising the debt ceiling and is working hard to get his message out that he does NOT “want” to raise the ceiling but refused to toe the line and JUST SAY NO... PERIOD !!! That is unacceptable to me..
Sorry. I have a job, house, family. I am NOT going to sit here while my country turns into Somalia just to prove a point.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and if you try to dump all the bricks at once, everyone will just die under the rubble. Gotta build it one brick at a time.
BTW, yes, they SHOULD use that plan, BUT, we have to SURVIVE in order to be able to do it.

Basically there are a couple options:
1. Refuse to raise the ceiling and have a majority agree. Nation defaults. Resulting catastrophe makes this recession and even the Great Depression itself look like the roaring twenties. Riots ensue and pretty soon, we look like Somalia or Sarajevo all over the country. By the time my toddler son is a grandfather, we *might* have a strong economy again. As a side note, upset country votes in a bunch of socialists next time and all is lost.
My analogy is this...you like a girl and want to date her. The above option is basically this; Instead of wining and dining that lady, you went straight for grabbing her butt, and now she won’t even talk to you anymore.
2. Vote no - but - get outvoted, ceiling is raised, but you maintain your principles, and have success in spending cuts to avoid future increases.
3. Agree to raise debt cieling but require a proportional amount of spending cuts to do it and stick to that plan. Keep this up and in a few years, we’ll be doing quite well. Still some pain, yes, but we survive.
BUNK !! we WILL SURVIVE !! Have a little faith in the WILL of the American People !

BS. You have posted hearsay. It is up to you to provide what was actually said IN CONTEXT. Your knee-jerk hearsay is BS till you provide context. I am not about to dump on Steve like you are doing without knowing what was said IN CONTEXT.
I am in now way “dumping” on Steve... I think he is trying to do what he thinks is right and is a HUGE imporovement over Allen Boyd.. I don’t regret voting for him.. I am calling him on this ONE comment that he made this morning.. He needs to take a very strong stance on this or he will be swollowed up in the cesspool of DC.
Yes you are. You proclaimed he was backpedaling after only two months and you were disappointed in that you expected him to stay a conservative for at LEAST two years.

As much as I’d love for the new Congress to not raise the debt ceiling, it has to be done. My proposal is to tie every increase to significant cuts. Give some, take some, etc.
A flat-out refusal to raise it would result in a catastrophe like we’ve never seen. When a family defaults, it affects mostly them, and maybe their creditors just a little.
When a NATION defaults, it affects 300 million people. I don’t think most conservatives WANT the country to default, and, in fact the reason for spending cuts is to avoid it!
Default for the nation can happen one of two ways:
1. The slow way - which is the path we’re on with Obama.
2. The fast way - not raising the ceiling.
End result is the same, and neither is acceptable to me.
The third option is what I suggested and it can work and (possibly) avoid disaster. Just the appearence of some austerity would make us look better in the eyes of our creditors etc. A default would NOT do that.
