The Mexican economy recovered from a sharp contraction in 2009 to grow by 5.5% last year, its fastest annual rate in 10 years, official figures show.

The National Statistics Institute said that the agriculture, manufacturing and services sectors all made a strong improvement over the year.

The manufacturing sector was one of the key drivers with a growth rate of 6.1% in 2010.

"Growth is now more balanced," said Finance Minister Ernesto Cordero.

"Manufacturing was stronger but most importantly the services sector grew significantly," said Gabriel Casillas at JP Morgan.

How do you get economic figures with any integrity out of Washington DC, let alone Mexico, is beyond me.

But if Mexico is (gringo laugh) telling the truth, this really is a jump in its GNP. To be fair, I’d think about 10% of Mexico’s GNP is street drugs....

Well if it’s any consolation to the Gringos, the Chinese will probably have them all within a decade.

It's hard to tell: Germany grows fast as well, and German illegals do not cross our borders en masse, do they?

They --- Germany, Mexico, Brazil --- grow because their measures were design for the recovery of their economies. Although the Obama administration speaks constantly of recovery, its measures are actually directed at reform of the economy (from a quasi-capitalist to a more socialist one). That is why the "stimulus" did not "stimulate:" it was not designed to do that.

Incidentally, remember the terrible Great Depression with 20% unemployment 8 years after Roosevelt ascended to the throne? A little-known fact: Hitler was elected the same year and had full employment just a couple of years later. Other countries recovered much faster as well back then. There is nothing new in what we are going through right now.

ok, so maybe we gringos should head down there and move in on Mexico, that is if we can outgun/outrun/outsmart the drug lords. Then we’ll still have to deal with corrupt law enforcement and military, substandard health care, education, public utilities...yikes, we should just go to Detroit instead! No, that’s not a good idea either, cuz I think they’ve got it really bad there. Guess being a redneck is my past and my future!!!

Bill, if i may, you nailed it. why would any investor or person with common sense believe any report from the 2 of the most corrupt countries in northern America (or world).

Mexico in a economic power house? spare me, USA and Mexico have a couple things in common, Mexicans cooking the food, and cooking the books.

The increase is due to a significant increase in the drug industry.

What is the decrease in US tourism to Mexico? How much of their GDP depends on tourism?

Thank You Obama Hussein, your redisribution of wealth program is successfully sending billions to places like ol' Mexico. Coupled with open borders to the Mexican drug cartels and terror trade, Hussein has also removed the US Oil Industy from competition in the Gulf of Mexico!

Congratulations to Hussein! Well done you POS!
