Back in those days, it took me awhile to get used to their music..
The orchestral part kinda threw me.
I didn’t understand the genius that was behind it..
I do now.

Praise the Lord, Kathy! With God’s help and your and your Mom’s
tender patience, he does seem to be improving. What a relief
that must be to ALL of you!

Does he remember the “meltdowns”?

I always liked Ray Thomas' flute work in this song. During the chorus, my late mother's comment was that the mellotron and voice combimation sounded like the souls suffering in purgatory.

The orchestra's insinuating itself into the song near the end was one of Tony Clark's best feats of engineering.

And Graeme Edge's poetry no doubt still makes your knees weak. Edge's voice has dipped an octave over the decades, but he still sounds good.

I may have asked you this before, but what is your opinion on the music of the Moody Blues?

It seems to me they are one of the early rock bands who combined the typical electric guitar, bass, drums, organ with an orchestra accompaniment in their music.

I heard that they played many of their own instruments, ie. flute, violin, etc in their recordings.

Probably in my top 3 of all time great 70's music groups!

The Moodies are my favorite band. Their first disk involved an orchestra. The second through seventh disks had the band playing only their own instruments, to include flute anhd cello.

Starting with their eighth disk, they brought in outside musicians.

I credit Justin Hayward with being one of the greatest songwriters of the age.
