Excerpt only website: The government is taking over three Tylenol plants following a blizzard of drug recalls and a Food and Drug Administration criminal investigation into safety issues at the factories.
The FDA and the Justice Department on Thursday took action against McNeil PPC and two of its executives -- its vice president of quality and its vice president of operations for over-the-counter products -- for failing to comply with federally-mandated manufacturing practice.
McNeil, a division of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ, Fortune 500), said it had agreed to put its plants -- one in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, one in Fort Washington, Pa. and one in Lancaster, Pa., under FDA supervision.

Yeah. I don’t think there really is an answer. Ultimately it comes down to “who will watch the watchers” and “who will oversee the overseers”. Eventually, at the end of the line, the answer is “nobody”.
Believing that FDA inspectors can’t be bribed to look the other way is as naive as believing that corporations will never take shortcuts to improve their bottom line.
The question, it seems to me, is which belief will, generally, lead to greater freedom for everyone in the long run. People would have eventually stopped buying J&J products thus self-policing the industry. Now you have a third layer of gov’t parasites in the way. Not sure that there is a definitive answer to this problem.
I remember colored TP.......also colored Kleenex.
Heck, I even remember when all Band Aids were white.
Guess I’m old.
Brew yourself some willow bark tea instead.
FYI
I don't know about the Advil but combining Tylenol and alcohol is a recipe for disaster. I know of someone who did that and died as a result.
I know. I’ve read the same reports. Tylenol and liquor is a bad combination.
I don’t think a couple of glasses of Merlot per week will do me much harm.....and possibly, some good.
What we need is a total ban on the manufacture of acetominofen.
There is no reason to use it; asperin is safer and more effective.
>> “Actually, Advil is my first choice of pain relievers. Then I go for the Merlot.” <<
.
At least you’ll die happy.
Health concerns with colored toilet paper
Snip: The FDA and the Department of Health and Human Services placed a ban on dyes used in the coloration of toilet paper in 1987 due to an increased risk of cancer in laboratory animals. I
Once upon a time, back in the sixties, all of the aspirin consumed in the United States was made at a single plant -- at Dow Chemical in Midland, MI
Aspirin is, literally, aspirin -- acetylsalycilic acid. Most of it was stamped Bayer, some of it was stamped St. Joseph...and the rest was blank, sold as private label product.
I'm allergic to regular aspirin. Acetaminophen has long been the alternative to aspirin.
No, reasonable consumption of alcohol is actually good for you. In my latest issue of a newsletter from the Department of Psychiatry, Massachusetts General Hospital, “Mind, Mood, and Memory, it is pointed out that daily consumption of a 4-ounce glass of red wine is associated with greater cognitive performance and lower risk of dementia.
Those “gol dern” laboratory animals have taken all the fun out of life.
It begins by returning to the intent of a jury of twelve. Every HIGH SCHOOL graduate should be required to pass a grad exam in law, certified to take and handle their OWN cases through the legal process.
American jobs and American safety procedures, what a concept! All the talk about corporate greed while unions have skated in their responsibility to keep costs down and employees working in the USA. The teeter totter with union responsibility for their part in the financial unraveling of America's states, cities and businesses has just landed on the ground with a resounding loud thud.
I hadn't heard that about combining Tylenol and liquor, but I do know if you have high blood pressure you are not supposed to take Advil. Tylenol seems to be the pain med of choice for that condition.
My 94 year-old father drinks two glasses of red wine each and every night.....and has for years. It helps him sleep and he has no dementia.
It certainly works for him.
Now, if I could just stop him from chasing all the elderly widows at his “luxurious retirement home”......and them chasing him! When I took him for his last exam at the Dr., he actually asked for a Viagra prescription!
Hmmm. 94 years of age, huh. Did he get the prescription?
So good, it's mandatory.
