Cape Canaveral, Fla. -- The Russians are hiking the price of rocket rides again for U.S. astronauts — to nearly $63 million. The price goes up in 2014 for an astronaut to fly to and from the International Space Station on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. NASA announced the news Monday. The previous contract charged just under $56 million apiece. The contract extension with the Russian Space Agency totals $753 million. That covers trips for a dozen astronauts from 2014 through 2016. NASA officials say inflation is the reason for the latest price increase.

That’s almost a free ride ! Why did we use the spaceshuttle at all ? One spaceshuttle ride for 7 astronauts was about 600 to 750 million. That’s almost twice the price of the russian ride per astronaut.

If it’s actually priced in dollars, it’s a STEAL, as the dollars we eventually pay them will be next to worthless by then.

Yeah, sure. We no longer have our own ride.

“NASA officials say inflation is the reason for the latest price increase”

Uh huh. It’s called supply and demand. Supply is very limited.

No, not the space shuttle - the entire NASA program. It is a bureaucratic mega-cost elephant and deserves to die off. The shuttle program in its promotion for funding and implementation promised ridiculous feats - near-daily launches, incredibly cheap turnaround costs and a whole host of other bullshit. In fact, the amount of horseshit NASA has been shoveling for all these years could fertilize every corn and wheatfield in this country every year. GOOD RIDDANCE! Besides, I hear they are only into Muslim Outreach now anyway and I’d be okay if that meant taking all the Muslims to the moon, but they ain’t playin’ that pardner...

If Obama is in for another 4 years I wonder how much they will charge us for Tanks or Planes? But maybe China will give us a better deal and throw in some color TV’S.

The Russians must not use our CPI figures, according to them we have no inflation.
