Confidence in the U.S. System of Government Drops to a 35-Year Low
ABC News ^ | 03/15/2011 | Gary Langer

Confidence in the U.S. system of government has dropped to a new low in more than 35 years, with public attitudes burdened by continued economic discontent, soaring gasoline prices, record opposition to the war in Afghanistan -- and a letdown in hopes for political progress after a bout of bipartisanship last fall.

More Video Watch: GOP's First Presidential Test Watch: Not Everyone Approves of the President Watch: Obama Rising, Palin SinkingOnly 26 percent of Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll say they're optimistic about "our system of government and how well it works," down 7 points since October to the fewest in surveys dating to 1974. Almost as many, 23 percent, are pessimistic, the closest these measures ever have come. The rest, a record high, are "uncertain" about the system.

Another pantload from the fourth estate.

It isn't working because we've had 20 years of big government politicians running it. Yes, I include Dubya...

What a muddle.

Just what do the blessed "independents" want? (And should I care?)

The question on my mind is: why are "independents" souring on the GOP? Is it because the GOP is not being bold enough in budget cutting? Or is it the effects of the Democrats and their Lamestream Media allies portraying Republicans, once again, as being utterly heartless extremists who want to starve the poor?

The system, as practiced, is broken. And the fundamental problem lies with the voters.

So now polls showing the public is not happy with Washington’s performance means they want to ditch our “system of government”?

Used to be when they were unhappy with the performance in DC the buck stopped with the pitiful president in the White House.

So what new “system of government” are these international socialists at ABC comtemplating for the US? Because they will be pushing that as the solution to American discontent soon.

If freaking illiterate, narcissistic, fifth-graders were doing all the brain surgery in the US, confidence in the medical system would be in the toilet, too.

So what else is new...?

This poll is worthless because it doesn’t break out the % of Republicans, independents and Democrats who were polled.

Glaring lie, isn't it? The Dems rammed through many unpopular laws before they lost power. And that's ‘bi-partisanship’ to Big Media.

I would say this is good news. But the question is why they are not trusting. Is it because they don't think they will continue to get their payments from the government?

Then the BIG question. If they are not trusting govt, who are they trusting? Unions? Democrats? MSM?, Obama?

I think revolution is coming, but God save us. This revolution will be more like the French revolution, focused on what they didn’t want vs. the American revolution which focused on what they wanted.........freedom and liberty.

Discontent with the “system of government” or the people in the government? The system is fine, to the extent that we’ve adhered to the constitutional republic that was once our guiding course. It’s the crooked thugs that have taken over that are of great concern.

Congress has played their part, too. I don't think their approval rating has been above 20% in about 15 years.

Obamanomics is working precisly as intended...

“There’s another reason for working inside the system. Dostoevski said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution.”

Sarl Alinsky - Rule for radicals.
