Dane County judge halts collective bargaining law

Madison -- Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi issued a temporary restraining order Friday, barring the publication of a controversial new law that would sharply curtail collective bargaining for public employees.

Sumi’s order will prevent Secretary of State Doug La Follette from publishing the law until she can rule on the merits of the case. Dane County Ismael Ozanne is seeking to block the law because he says a legislative committee violated the state’s open meetings law.

Sumi said Ozanne was likely to succeed on the merits.

Don’t know about the state my self, but you can bet it is an overt case of judge shopping.

“The judge has exceeded her authority, and should be slapped down by a higher court.”

Indeed. How the hell can a frickin county circuit court rule on a matter of state constitutional law? Why not have her rule Obamacare constitutional while we’re at it? Oh, and the fine for that speeding ticket, sir, is $150.00.

It’s discouraging that the Walker administration wasn’t better prepared. The law is clearly on the side of the Senate rule and Walker should have had his lawyer and the AG in court to push back on this judge.

There has been collusion from the get go on this law, between the Madison Mayor, the Secretary of State and this judge. Where is the AG on this?

Without a doubt.

They needed a ‘sympathetic ear’ and they found one.

It’s the same judge that said that the striking teachers created no ‘damage’ to the education system by protesting.

Even though it’s against state law for teachers to strike.

Saying they are ‘protesting’ is just a cop out word for a strike.

Remember kids:

Judges’ rulings favoring GOP: ignored, challenged and/or take years to implement. Portrayed as ‘judicial activism’ and ‘outside the mainstream.’

Judges rulings favoring liberals: historic, courageous, law of the land to be instantaneously implemented and obeyed.

This is how things work now. When a law is passed that hurts the left, it is tied up in the courts forever and nothing gets done.

When a law is passed that hurts America, even if a judge knocks it down, the leftists in the bureaucracy plow ahead with it anyway. See ObamaCare.

Our system is truly broken. God only knows what it will take to fix it.

Should have cut the budget first....then go after public employee unions.

The courts are going to side with the unions, both state and federal. It is hard to take away collective bargaining rights.

We are learning the difference between real conservatives and fiscal conservatives....fiscal conservatives are neither.

Cut the budget

I like the do over thing with the 24 hour notice, works for me.

That isn't as easy as it sounds. The judge hasn't ruled. Doing that would essentially concede that we violated the law to get this passed in the first place - this would not make the GOP look good as it would reinforce leftist arguments that we "cheated".

The left is simply going to tie this up till they get a different legislature or governor. Going after their unions is like a dagger in their heart and they will fight this with every bit of energy they can muster - and use every trick in the book. The liberals are extremely energized for this battle, I sure hope our folks are as well.
