Honestly never had much of one - maybe a little - that probably comes out more when I’m around similarly afflicted people. It’s hard to hear your own accent but people tell me it’s either not there, or only minimally there. In the meantime, I’ve learned to speak Southern (live in NC now) pretty well!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s awesome! “Y’all” - nothing says “South” like it IMO.

Hey, I told people for years I was from S. New Hampshire, because inevitably, if you did say you’re from MA, the Ted Kennedy sh*t would come up. Just what I want to talk about...like I’d ever vote for him or any of that klan.

“Y’all take care now!”

I’m German-American on one side and Mongrel-American on the other. Can anyone tell me which will get me the greater benefits from the government?

>You’ll never hear me say that.

Bottom line: Typically, people are more comfortable when the’re with the same kind of people. Been that way since the dawn of man. And it’s not going to change, “best liberal intensions” or not.<

I didn’t think you would, Gopster. But you can bet the bottomfeeders in liberal la la land believe anyone born in the south fits the slur. They can’t help projection, it lets them live their entire lives in denial.

Thank you, Darnright.

My freshman year of college I took US History, which started after the Civil War. The professor asked the following question: “Given the choice between vacationing in Toronto, Canada or Birmingham, Alabama, where would you go?”. Vote by a show of hands.

The vote was probably 90% for Toronto. I voted for Birmingham, not for a political reason, but because I had never been there (went to Toronto when I was 8). Well, f**k me for voting for Birmingham. Me and the other 2 people who voted Birmingham got told that we were the outliers in the class, and that the majority of the students would rather go to a foreign country than to go to Alabama.

So no question, the leftists think and say blatant anti-Southern things, big time.

Springfield is Detroit on a smaller scale. I agree that Boston metro area will never look that bad. Money and demographics keep things fairly stable. So do attitudes. I still remember the reaction to METCO students in the ‘70s.

Great analogy on Springfield/Detroit - spot on!

Yes on Boston.

Busing was before my time, but I've seen and heard what was going on when it was being implemented - by a liberal judge who lived in (S)Wellesley no less.

“Do as I say, not as I do”, the liberal mantra.

Remember Ed King's "Make It In Massachusetts?"

Quickly supplanted by "Barely Making It In Massachusetts" beginning in '83 with the return of Dukakis.

Ed King - 1979, I was 6. I don't remember him, although I have always heard good things about him (even though he was a Dem, although later in life he switched and became a Republican, IIRC).

I do remember “The Massachusetts Miracle” and “Yes on 2, no on 3”.

His predecessor and successor, Dukey the Greek, OTOH, yeah - sucked, sucked and sucked. Although to be fair, Deval Patrick ALMOST makes Duke look simply bad, instead of dreadful.

Yep. The closest he ever got to a non-white person was his caddy at whatever country club he belonged to.

That was a loaded question from a liberal prof. I would’ve vocally set the jerk straight for setting up such a choice. For starters, Birmingham isn’t a “vacation destination.” I live, what, 2 1/2 hours or so north of it and have never spent any time there (save for the time it took to drive past on I-65 heading to the Gulf or returning via Texas). There’s very little to do there. Toronto is the NYC of Canada, and hence there are many things to do there.

I think a better choice of options would’ve been whether the class would prefer Myrtle Beach vs. Detroit. I’d ask the prof which HE would prefer. If he said “Myrtle Beach”, I’d denouce him as a reactionary right-winger racist for not appreciating the myriad of activities to do in Detroit.

Hmmmm....I think we can figure something out here....

"Mongrel-American" would indicate a certain level of "mix-ed-ness", yes??

If so, I'm fairly certain there must be some "native-American" blood or DNA in there somewhere!!

So there you go...add a middle name to your already illustrious monicker....something like "black eagle" or "painted pony" or "fuzzy bear"....then pick an extinct tribe to be a member of. Say the "Blue-muds" or the "Cheehaws" or even the "Chowanok" from which your illustrious heritage springs.

Then....apply for all the benefits accruing thereto from the Federal Govt!!!

Win - Win

Well, at the time I was an 18 year old “skull full of mush”. If that scenario came up today, sure, I'd have the fillet knives out. Hell, back then I was looking forward to voting for Bill Weld for governor (first term; the only time I ever voted for him).

I can't say I remember much about Toronto, since I was there ~30 years ago, but “tourist wise”, I'm sure it has more to offer.

Oh, the prof. said he would rather go to Toronto. I'd enjoy seeing his reaction to your Myrtle Beach vs. Detroit question.

Hey, if this guy got his jollies off of tossing hand grenades at barely legal adults, it just shows a liberal MO. I'm sure he's enjoying his monthly, tax-free retirement check, most likely while living in another, low-cost state - that's another MO of the MAssholechusetts lib - take the money and run to where the taxes aren't.

Of course race exsits, it is not a ‘social construct’ at all. Which is why you can determine someones race from DNA. Race is correlated with lots of things, size, athleticism, intelligence, hereditary disease, propensity to violence.

As for “Darwinism” - well according to most scientists the races seperated at least 100,000 years ago, which is 1/2 a million generations of genetic drift. It has nothing to do with gorillas. Look at the difference between a rottweiler and a poodle.

Same species, but you can’t claim that there is no inherent difference between those two breeds. And that is far fewer generations than human races.

Saying things like “race is merely a social construct” is just more liberal non-sense. It’s just another ridiculous meme that they trot out when it suits them, but don’t really believe themselves. (Else why the endless programs for some races and not others?)

During the ‘88 campaign I had one of those bumper stickers that showed a Pillsbury Doughboy-like character laughing so hard he was on his back, holding his stomach. The caption was, “Dukakis for WHAT??!!”

That's awesome!!!

We know Obama sucks, but just think if stiffs like McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis or Kerry had got in before him. Ugh...

Although with Obama in now, the game of “kick the can down the road” ended up in on the dining room table. But, damn, both parties, but especially the Rats, really ended up putting some real horsesh*t candidates up for POTUS.
