Boehner to introduce one-week stopgap to stave off shutdown (Pelosi had more of a pair)

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is set to introduce a bill Monday night to fund the military through September and fund government operations for one more week, Republican sources tell The Hill.

Boehner's move is intended to prevent a government shutdown that would start after Friday without another measure to fund the government.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) said the GOP was trying to prevent a government shutdown "at all costs."

“We’re serious about trying to prevent a government shutdown. We’re also serious about cutting spending," he told reporters after a meeting of the GOP conference on Monday evening.

Boehner told GOP lawmakers attending a closed-door conference meeting that he needed “leverage” going into a meeting with President Obama and Senate Democratic leaders at the White House on Tuesday morning, a lawmaker told The Hill.

“He said he needs this (the as-of-yet-introduced bill) and the support of the conference going into that meeting at the White House, because he feels it gives him more leverage,” the source explained to The Hill.

So did our Founding Fathers.

There is good restructuring and there is bad restructuring.

We’ve been suffering the demise of America and American ideals since the 19-teens thanks to Statism.

IT IS TIME TO TEAR STATISM DOWN.

There is no longer any “we win” scenario. Everything is too far gone to recover. We have a 14+ trillion dollar debt which will hit its cap next month apparently. Everyone will of course vote to raise the debt ceiling again to avoid a crisis. Gas prices are starting to get out of hand, I know for me personally its hitting me hard. We have countries looking to unload our debt and dumping dollars as their currency reserve. Once all countries dump us as the reserve then it really will get bad. The only thing thats keeping us afloat is our ability to print money. If we lose our currency as the world reserve then we have to start buying other nations currencies to do business. Then no amount of printing will help us. We have an illegal private bank cartel, The Fed, that gives out money to foreign banks while spitting in our faces.

We have an administration that exploits an oil spill crisis to shut down a good portion of our oil drilling capacity all in the name of safety, while at the same time giving billions to Brazil to help them in their drilling industry. Then to rub the proverbial S*** in our faces this admin says we are going to buy the very oil from the very people we just gave billions to.

Now with our aligning with the Muslim nations of the world we are showing our true evil colors and are on in an inevitable showdown with Israel. God will not stand for any of this for long, we have squandered what our forefathers bled for. They should look at us all in shame as the ulitmate lust and greed for individual power at any cost has run roughshod over everything and left our once great nation in shambles.

Every empire/nation through out history has always eaten itself alive from within and then fallen. Why do we think that America would be any different?? I am not one of those doom criers standing at the corner, but in all seriousness what can anyone do at this point in time to stop this spiral to oblivion?

“We’re serious about trying to prevent a government shutdown. We’re also serious about cutting spending"

That's kind of like saying "We're serious about trying to prevent plugging this hole in the boat. We're also serious about preventing the boat from sinking."

Agree. The cr’s are producing real spending cuts, even through they are smaller than what we would like to see overall.

What the medai keeps failing to report...and the Republicans don’t seem to scream for the rooftops enough is that the Democrats were absolutely derelict in their duty and failed to even pass a budget last year. Too busy jamming Obiecare down our throats to do their job.

Paid vacation my ass. We’ve been told by upper management we will be sent home without pay, and that we will NOT be paid retro-actively for time missed. If you’re going to go after an easy target, and least load your ammo right.

for one it would save adding 900 billion to the national debt. This would curb inflation and protect the dollar. Two a six month shutdown would create jobs...the government not destroying the economy would allow the economy to breathe...three it would teach the people that we do not need government at these levels...

I sometimes wonder what some Freepers are thinking.

Because the man doesn’t want to shut down the government he is a wuss?

The last time we let the government shut down, we got Clinton again.

No way in heck should we try that again. They still are demanding steep cuts.

Boehner is so compassionate that he passes bills adding 900 billion to the national debt over the next six (seven) months.

you think “cutting” 33 or 61 billion total a little bit a week is good even when they add 900 billion to the national debt over the same period?

“What happens now doesn’t really have a major impact in the long run”

You don’t think 900 billion added to the debt does not have a long term effect? you think funding Obama care does not have an effect? You think legitimizing all of Obama’s 2009,2010 spending increases by funding them does not have an effect? With all due respect YOU are part of the problem.

You understand that these CR’s are not producing real cuts overall. For example the last CR “cut” 6 billion yet funded obama care to the tune of 7.5 billion.... think about that.

The current GOP strategy will add 900 billion to the debt from March until Sept 30.

“Democrats were absolutely derelict in their duty and failed to even pass a budget last year”

You sure like the GOP lying talking points don’t you? The fact that they did not pass a budget gives us a chance to (and leverage to) CUT. It is a BLESSING.To the GOP it is a curse cause they support Big government.

The Pubbies are shaping the battlefield...so to speak!

The 2012 Budget is the coming Battle!

Logic will not work with a left wing radical, nor a FReeper that wants to burn down the village in order to save it.

Purify with fire, kill all the witches, nothing the pubbies do {short of hari kari on the steps of the Capitol will satisfy some folks here.

The senate and the white hut are under demonRAT control, so the first chance for a real, meaningful battle is with the 2012 budget.

The $ 61 Billion cuts proposed by HR 1, is mousenuts, it's a step in the right direction, but in reality, we are spending $4 Billion a day, and HR ! cuts $2 Billion a week.

For some reason many conservatives think it would be better to shut the Gov't down. I don't know what they're smoking.

Emotionally, I'd love to see the govt shut down. Rationally, I know it would only backfire on the Republicans. The MSM would enthusiastically publish the lies and distortions uttered by their masters, the Democrats, and the majority of the American public would believe them. I think the FReepers who want a shutdown don't remember what happened last time.

The "village" is already on fire. To continue with the status quo will let it burn to the ground. Liberals, and some FReepers, refuse to accept reality if it appears too "harsh". They will not wake up until they're kicking ashes.
