In-N-Out Burgers vs. Five Guys
Me | 4/8/11 | Oh, the huge vanity

Posted on 04/08/2011 9:32:29 PM PDT by Mike Darancette

5 guys just moved into town which is better In-N-Out Burgers or Five Guys?

From what I hear 5 Guys is better but for fries, shakes, burger taste and prices. What say you all.

Next time you’re at In N Out look under your drink cup. Written clearly in red ink, “John 3:16”
Cant beat that!

The District in Tustin (CA) has an In-N-Out already and will have 5 Guys in June. It will be interesting which one will do better since they will be about 1000 feet from each other.

I don't think we are communicating!

You wanted me to look at your link, which you did not post to me, you posted it to someone else so it didn't show up as a reply to me. I had to scan through the thread to find a link that you had posted, and came upon the In and Out one first, so I looked no further and assumed that was what you meant when you asked me if I had seen the link with pics.

Hence, my comments were in regard to In-and-Out. Thanks for posting more info later to me on XXX, so it was then clear what you wanted me look at.

I am sure you have been to In-n-Out, who in Cali hasn’t

I live in Texas, and that is what is in my profile. Since there was no way for you to know that I had ever lived in Cali, when I thought you wanted me to look at In-and-Out pics, I simply pointed out that there was no need because "I lived (as in past tense) in southern Cal for a while, so I’ve seen and eaten many an In and Out burger."

Like I said, you wanted me to look at one link but you didn't identify the link (XXX), and I assumed you were talking about a different link (IandO), so we just weren't communicating!

It's ashamed that your favorite burger joint is so isolated, not much chance in me getting to the Seattle area to try it. There are a lot of great one-off burger joints all across the country. I went to a phenomenal one a few weeks ago, but it is so far off the beaten path that mentioning it here wouldn't help their business ... so few people here would be able to take advantage of it. I'll stick with the Smashburger recommendation, when comparing burger chains. Now for a one-off ... Alamo Springs Cafe:

Their Char burgers are fantastic, the fries are top notch, shakes are ace too.

I think thats the best way to cook hamburger - Hardees was like that in their glory days and I think “Char broiled or Char-Grilled” was the method of advertising them. We got the best tasting, best priced... A burger was like 39 cents. Two of them a nice sized meal.

Yeah, there are a few places that make those around here, they usually just call them Ribeye Steak Sandwiches, so I’m not sure which place you’re referring to. It’s a pretty standard Chicago “grill” item.

There used to be these places every few blocks in the city, where you could get burgers, Chicago dogs, gyros, italian beef, polish sausage, pizza puffs, cheese sticks, shakes, etc. With all the health conscious yuppies gentrifying the city, most have gone out of business, but some of the best ones still survive.

I’ve got fond memories of the M & G’s down the block from my childhood home, where I knew if I could scrounge up 2 or 3 bucks, I would be eating good! It was run by two old greek guys who sounded like the guys from the SNL “cheesborger cheesborger” sketch. They would seriously say stuff like: “Ok, yee-ros, larchey fries! Choo wanna coke?”

I tried 5 Guys and wasn`t too impressed. Never been to an In-and-out as of yet.

Ate at a place called Schoop`s the other day and thought it was pretty good. Kind of a NW Indiana chain.

Texas has In-n-out and Fat Burger, so all isn’t lost.

Texas still has the best chicken fried steak in the world.

I know it's not burger related but has anybody tried Chester's Chicken or Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shops? Was looking up the fastest growing franchises for trivia and came across them. Out of the top ten fastest growing franchises most are cleaning companies but Subway is in 3rd, and Pizza Hut comes in at 6th. Being high on the list for years McDonald's is surprisingly now in 12th, just behind 11th Chester's Chicken. Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shops comes in a few places behind McD’s at 15th.

I’ll have to turn in now and just dream of hamburgers for now.

In-N-Out Burger is the best fast food burger chain in the country, imo.

“I think thats the best way to cook hamburger”

Well, the best way short of a real charcoal bar-b-q on a summer day :)

I popped into Muskie`s a time or two when I lived in Chicago. The burgers were good but I thought the fries sucked. It was like they never changed the grease in the fryer....ever.

“Chicago used to be the Blue Collar Food Mecca”

Yeah, good eating, not necessarily good for you. Just ask John Belushi, George Wendt, or Chris Farley.
