Donald Trump's Political 'Pit Bull': Meet Michael Cohen
ABC News ^ | 04/15/2011 | MICHAEL FALCONE

Posted on 04/16/2011 6:50:32 AM PDT by Smokeyblue

The man behind Donald Trump's possible 2012 presidential campaign is a registered Democrat who voted for Barack Obama in 2008.

Not only that, but Michael Cohen, an executive at the Trump Organization who doubles as Trump's chief political adviser, once volunteered for 1988 presidential candidate Michael Dukakis and worked for a Democratic member of Congress.

This election cycle is different. Late last year, Cohen co-founded the draft Trump website "Should Trump Run?" It has received more than 830,000 hits.

Cohen, 44, is known around the office -- and around New York -- as Trump's "pit bull." Some have even nicknamed him "Tom," a reference to Tom Hagen, the consigliore to Vito Corleone in the "Godfather" movies.

But since Obama's election in 2008, he said he has grown disappointed with the president, so much so that he now describes himself as "offended" by the administration's agenda. America, Cohen said, has become a "third-world nation," echoing words that have become a familiar refrain of Trump's.

SNIP

With Trump stoking new speculation about his political ambitions every day, Cohen said "the phones have not stopped ringing, the fax machine is off the hook" and his email inbox is clogged. More than a few of those messages have to do with the issue that has catapulted Trump into the headlines recently -- birtherism.

"I am certain that the president was born in Hawaii -- I really am," Cohen said. "I am most irritated with the fact that this president has been exceptionally secretive when it relates to any personal documentation about his past. If you run on a platform of transparency, you should be transparent."

“you think you might be able to offer us an alternative such as some good things about the candidate you support? “

A track record to judge them on.

The great thing about ALL of these 8 potential candidates - Palin, Romney, Daniels, Pawlenty, Barbour, Gingrich, Bachmann, Huckabee - is that they have held elected office.

This means we can judge them on how they performed in office, not just their promises before getting there.

I dont believe President is an entry-level political office, we need that track record to properly judge what and how well they would do in the highest office.

Let the vetting begin.

“I had arrived to the point where I thought maybe his father was foreign born and that’s why he’s hiding it.”

Since Barack Obama wrote an entire autobiography around the fact that his father was Kenyan, and his Kenyan father’s name is on his Certification of Live Birth that he shared to ‘prove’ his birth in Hawaii, that would be the worst-kept secret in the world.

Palin's pretty much the only one I see on the list that is closest to my views. And Allen West who is not on your list. I like him too.

they have held elected office

That's most likely considered a negative. It may also explain Trumps rising in the polls. I think Americans want an outsider, non-politician type. I would LOVE to see Alan Keyes as VP.

“Trump is not saying anything I haven’t heard before. He is just bringing it to the forefront again. Zero will not produce his BC. Page #11 is missing in his mothers divorce proceeding in Hawaii. Speculation is that it is Barry’s BC, the court required for his birth mother to have custody of the child.”

The Stanley Annd Dunham / Barack Obama Sr divorce record can be found here:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/18130289/Obama-1964-Divorce-Papers-13-Pages-Missing-Pg-11

The 11th page, between 10 and 12 is unnumbered and has receipts of the divorce papers being served on Barack obama Sr. Its highly unlikely page 11 has the BC, since the baby, Barack Obama II, is mentioned on page 3 of the divorce filing. In fact its not clear there is even a missing page, as there are two unnumbered pages of receipts between numbered pages 10 and 12.

I won’t be voting in a primary for ten months. That’s more than an eternity in politics. I intend to use that intervening time to look at each and every one of the announced candidates as they announce. We don’t really know if Trump or Palin or Cain or Bachmann will decide to run, or who might decide to enter the fray merely to frame the debate.

Trump’s donating to Dems frankly doesn’t bother me as much as it does others. I don’t like it but it’s not a deal breaker. Perhaps I am too cynical because I was in the PAC business for many years. Those political contributions have been over-played here in any case. His donations are 3:2 D:R. Fact is, no one individual can contribute enough to make a difference. It’s not like the unions that provide money, manpower and organizational support. I give them credit, they get their butts out and work the campaigns. Too many conservatives talk but DO nothing.

On the Sharron Angle/Harry Reid issue: colleagues in NV who are far to the right of you and me combined complained from the primary forward that the Tea Party had chosen the wrong candidate to run against Reid. One was furious, and told me on the night of the primary that they’d handed the election to Reid that night. I don’t live in NV, so I wouldn’t know its politics. This particular person has lived in Las Vegas since the mid-60s and has followed its politics over all those years, so I have to trust he knows what he’s talking about. Note that this person ‘likes’ Sharron Angle, just thought she was the wrong candidate to put up vs. Reid. Principle is great, but it doesn’t necessarily win elections. And then what do you have? Harry Reid!

I will give Trump credit for one thing: he’s surely made this a more interesting contest than it was 3 short weeks ago.

“Trump’s donating to Dems frankly doesn’t bother me as much as it does others. I don’t like it but it’s not a deal breaker.”

It should be. It was a primary issue last year in some local and state races. In a race in our area, the guy who donated to Dems had his ‘business’ reasons... well ... he won and turned out to be a RINO.

If you give to Schumer, it means you dont mind the stench of his liberalism.

“On the Sharron Angle/Harry Reid issue: colleagues in NV who are far to the right of you and me combined complained from the primary forward that the Tea Party had chosen the wrong candidate to run against Reid.”

So what. only RINOs and libs supported Reid and Trump gave to Reid in 2009 and 2010.

“Principle is great, but it doesn’t necessarily win elections.”

The motto on unprincipled consultants who give us politicians who sell us out.

We will have a great field of candidates. Find someone who is winnable AND has solid, proven conservative principles - that’s the horse to ride. We dont have to settle for less.

“The Republicans and Tea Party Conservatives are divided and have been since the start of the Tea Party Revolution.”

Not so. There has been differences but a lot of common ground, and many in the Republican party, especially the new blood and new crop of elected officials and leaders, have been preaching and touting Tea Party principles. Just today Palin, Marco Rubio and others have spoken at rallies, and the GOP Congress and the Ryan plan is a serious attempt at fixing the fiscal mess we are in.

“It won’t have anything to do with Perot or a liberal conspiracy.”

IF Trump runs as an indie you might fal prey to just such a thing. If Trump’s pandering to your desire for a ‘strong’ leader, which is exactly what Perot did, splits the anti-Obama vote in nov 2012, then Trump will be the Perot II of American politics as Obama gets re-elected. We dont know that will happen, but Trump stated he will run indie if he doesnt get the GOP nod. He’s unlikely to win the GOP nomination given his many many flaws. ALso, he certainly wouldnt win - the Obama campaign would have a field day blasting a guy who has claims to be a business wiz but has been through 3 bankruptcies.

“I am looking for someone who puts the interest of the Country first in both domestic and foreign policy.”

Every single GOP candidate will do that.

Trump stated he will run indie if he doesn’t get the GOP nod.

I guess Trump never considered running against Obama in the primary. That would use up a lot of that billion dollars Obama is going to get. A lot of republicans would cross over to vote for him in that situation.

That is what frosts me. You have the potential candidates that have been working in the trenches for close to two years, yet some are ready to throw them overboard for a self-promoting oportunists. Frankly, I don’t think Trump will run. He has the habit of getting hot on some idea he gets, then gets bored and moves on. Trump doesn’t have the patience or inclination to ask for votes “from the little people”

Trump will launch a third party effort if he misses the nomination. The only way he'll miss the nomination is if he doesn't get the backing of the Pubbie insiders and kingmakers. It will be difficult to beat Zero at the ballot box in 2012, whatever all of us may think of him and his policies. The 2012 Pubbie nominee should be prepared to play the part of Bob Dole '96 or (crossing party lines) Mondale in 1984.

Trump 2012 is Arnold 2003. He is a useful idiot doing the dirty work the idiot Country Clubber GOP won’t do. I hope he runs in the primary and exposes a lot of Obama’s socialism to those who refused to listen so far. But as the GOP nominee, he would be a disaster.

Get over it. RP is not one who thinks Bush blew up 911. But I do remember News articles in the 90’s about Muzzies from overseas wanting to hijack planes and fly them in to cities to crash. They were caught with their pants down and still have not pulled them up because of PC.
